This one is specifically for all you stay at home moms. Yes, I’m one of you too. And probably more guilty than most about falling into the “Stay At Home Mom Slump”! What is this you ask? Well, look down at yourself mama! Do you have on three day old sweats? Is your hair piled on top of your head in a not particularly fashionable knot? Have you forgotten what makeup looks like? OK, I’ll say it, have you neglected the shaving of your legs for quite some time? Yes, the rust on the razor is a clear indication. You are officially in the Stay At Home Mom Slump!
OK, take a deep breath. This happens to the best of us. We start each day with great intentions. And then the downhill slide of everyday life starts and all those intentions go out the window. And instead of breaking the slump, we longingly remember the days when we had time to actually feel like a woman and not a maid/chef/chauffeur. But, alas, those days are gone and MOM is now our official job title. It a great title that we love to have but we have to find ways to break the slump and bring beauty back to motherhood!
So, here it is. A quick and easy list of steps that you can take to break the Stay at Home Mom Slump and surprise the world! Because SAHM shouldn’t mean SLOB!
Take a Shower! (Yes, I mean in the Morning)
It’s so easy to fall into the routine of getting kids up and dressed and going. Hold on though! Getting yourself dressed and going needs to come first! Yes, this may mean getting up 30 minutes earlier! Because, after all, who can relax in a nice shower with the baby screaming or the kids playing. Set your alarm. Give yourself some me time. Go to bed 15 minutes earlier at night if that helps make it easier to get up. But make it a priority. You will be amazed at how different your mindset for the day is – all because of a little shower!
Ban the Sweats!
Sweatpants are for working out! Yes, there are times when they are appropriate (like when you’re scrubbing toilets) but break out of this being your mommy uniform. Invest in a cute and comfortable pair of jeans. They don’t have to be fancy. Pair that with a nice fitted tee and flats and – VIOLA!- you look like a super stylish mama! You’ll catch those other moms in their sweats eyeing you – wondering how you do it all!
Love your LipGloss!
I know that it is unrealistic to think that you are going to have time to put on your makeup every day. Or maybe you don’t really like makeup. That’s OK. Taking little steps will make a difference without taking a lot of time. Put on a little blush, mascara and lipgloss before you leave the house. It will help you achieve a fresh look! It’s amazing how a few little touches can turn washed out into wonderful!
Help Your Hair!
Yes, a ponytail comes with the mom territory. But a ponytail can be cute instead of crazy! Instead of pulling your hair up in a messy knot on top of your head, try a chic messy, low side bun or a more refined sleek low ponytail. You can mix it up by adding braids to the side before pulling it back or use a cute clip to secure your locks and give your look a flair. Regardless of which way you go, sleek and classic will have you looking and feeling like a classy mom in no time!
Try these simple tips to transform yourself from the “overworked stay at home mom” to the “fashionable, I love being at home with my children but I love me as well mom”. You may be surprised to find that small, simple changes can make all the difference in the world!
Now go rock out your new look Mama! Because the slump is over!
