We are huge football fans in our home. Not a single weekend goes by during football season that there is not a game on our television and a cheer coming out of our home. And since we live in North Carolina, we’re of course loyal to our home state teams! With pro, it’s the Panther’s all the way! There is not much of a choice there since they are the only pro team in our state. But when it comes to college ball, things get a little trickier. There’s Duke, State, Wake Forest and of course Carolina! And while for some the choice may be difficult, for me, well, it’s about what you’re born into. I remember as a little girl chanting the rhyme “Duke is puke. Wake is fake. But the team I hate is NC State. Go Tarheels!” You see, my dad was a Carolina graduate and in our house, it could really be said the you bled Carolina blue. So of course as I got older and had my own children, the Tarheel pride was passed on. So, with the days getting cooler and football season in full swing, the hubby and I decided that it was time to get the boys some gear that they could wear on the weekend while we do our homegating.
Now, unfortunately, we don’t live close enough to Chapel Hill to go to the games in person on the weekend but we make our own event out of the games at home. We start off by throwing a little football outside. We play games and enjoy the weather. Then we load up the chips, pour the drinks and head downstairs to watch the game on the big screen. But with the fall quickly approaching and the weather rapidly cooling, we knew we needed something for the kids to wear so that the could continue to enjoy our outdoor pregame activities in style!
The hubby and I were going out on a long overdue date night which took us right by our local Walmart so we decided to stop in and see what we could find before game day.
Once we arrived at Walmart, we had a mission in our minds – to find a hoodie for the boys – or at the very least for MillerBug since J-Man had his from last year that he could still fit into. We headed into the store and went straight to the boy’s section. Unfortunately, J-Man is getting so big that there weren’t any options for him. But that was OK since we knew he could really still make his sweatshirt from last year work (even if the sleeves are a little short). So, still determined, we headed to the baby section.
This is the first year that MillerBug has been old enough to participate in the pre-game festivities so finding him the perfect hoodie was an essential. We immediately spotted the Carolina Tarheels gear and headed straight over. There were jerseys but we didn’t want to go that direction. We wanted something that was unique. And little kid cute. And Tarheel cool. And then we spotted it – the ram’s head hoodie from MascotWear by Infinity!
It was perfect for several reasons! First, the design. It zipped up for easy putting on and taking off for a toddler. Second the lining was super soft and warm to keep him from getting cold on the cool game days. Third, the ram was a perfect blend of little kid cute and Tarheel fierce! As soon as the hubby saw it, he knew that this was the perfect game day MascotWear hoodie for our little linebacker!
Armed with our perfect first game day NFL hoodie for our MillerBug, we picked up some snacks and headed for the checkout! I really thought the hubby was going to cancel our date night just so that he could run home and try it out on MillerBug immediately! He was just so excited that our littlest family member was going to be able to get in on the football action this year!
After a little convincing (i.e. telling him that it was MillerBug’s bedtime already), I convinced him to finish our date. But he was so excited the next morning to break out the hoodie, put MillerBug in it and get on with game day rituals! And, as if the weather knew our plans, it was a perfectly crisp fall morning! So, we put MillerBug in his collegiate hoodie and sent him outside to play ball in true Tarheel fashion!
As is our pre-game tradition, we threw the football. We chased each other down the street. We played games and had a good time and just enjoyed being together, being a family, enjoying the amazing weather and getting ready to cheer on our team! For a toddler, MillerBug proved that he has a great arm and has many, many weekends of football madness in front of him!
Once the kids has expended all their energy, it was time to refuel in front of the television. So, we grabbed snacks and headed downstairs for game time. The boys love to sit together in the bean bag and cheer while they eat their chips and they are just so cute doing in! J-Man had decided to get comfy before the game came on but MillerBug wouldn’t let us take his hoodie off for anything! So they sat and watched the game and munched and made memories.
And in the end, our cheering was worth it because our Tarheels delivered a win over rivals East Carolina! Woo Hoo! It was the perfect end to an amazing day – packed full of family and fun! Now we just have to get through the week so that we can enjoy another great game day next weekend – all while wearing our team spirit in style with MascotWear!
