I always struggle with what to give my loved ones for Valentine’s Day. You see, I want to give them something that is from the heart and meaningful and that is as unique as they are. So, this year I decided I would make pretty much all of my Valentine’s Day gifts. I’m actually very excited about this – more excited than I’ve ever been about going out and buying presents. So, I’ll be bringing you my hand crafted gifts over the next few weeks. And today, the first of those is a super cute (if I do say so myself) hand painted Valentine’s Day Triple Picture Frame. Here’s how you can make it too!
DIY Hand Painted Valentine’s Day Triple Picture Frame Craft
What You Will Need
Wooden Unfinished Picture Frame
1 Inch Wooden Letters and Shapes
Red, Pink and White Acrylic Paint
Clear Acrylic Sealer
Glue or Hot Glue Gun
Paint Brushes and Sponges
How to Make It
To start your craft, lay out your picture frames and letters and set them up the way you will want them to look. This is important for spacing and to get a idea of what colors you want to use.
One you have an idea of what cute sayings you would like on your frame, you’re ready to start painting the basic frame. You can easily open the hangers using a set of needle nose pliers so that you can work on each of the three frames separately. Paint each frame with two to three layers of acrylic paint or until you can no longer see the grain of the frame through the paint. Then set them aside and let the dry.
Once your painted frames are completely dry, you’re ready to add your designs. Choose the stencils that work best for your personality and the final look you want. Then lay your stencil over the picture frame and using your sponge brush, dot on the paint. Make sure your open spaces are covered but be careful not to use too much paint so that you don’t end up with a bubbly, runny look.
Continue on with stencils on any of the frames you would like them on. You can use stencils on all three or leave some solid – it’s up to the final look you want.
Once you have your stencils painted onto your frames and they are dry, you are ready to paint and add your letters and shapes. Simply paint the wooden letters and shapes with the color of acrylic paint of your choice. Allow them to dry completely and then attach them to your frames using either Elmer’s glue or a hot glue gun.
Allow your glue to dry completely and they you are ready to finish your frames. BE SURE TO DO THIS STEP OUTSIDE! Using your clear acrylic spray, cover each of your frames with three light coats of spray – allowing about five minutes of drying time in between coats.
Once your acrylic spray is dry, you’re ready to add finishing touches and pictures! You can use a cute foam heart to add a little depth to your frame or add any finishing touches that will make it perfect for you (jewels, pearls and sequins are FUN).
Once you have added any finishing touches and pictures, you’re ready to put your frame together! Simply reattach the frames to each other and use your pliers to bend them closed again to keep them together. Then use a piece of red string or twine to make a pretty way to hang you final product. You can simply knot it on to both of the hooks on your top frame.
You’re now ready to hang your pretty picture frame! Find a perfect place and surprise your love with a sweet memories of your time together and showcase your relationship!
Happy Valentine’s Day!
