We all know Mother’s Day is quickly approaching. And for me, as a mom, some of the most special presents are the ones that are hand made by my kiddos (with a little adult supervision of course). So, since it was a little overcast outside this morning, MillerBug and I decided to sit down and work on a project. Now, any of you who have little kids know that there is just something magical to them about putting their hands in paint. And while I’m usually begging the kids not to make a mess, today I figured we’d get a little messy and make a hand print flower tote bag that I would be proud to carry! Here’s how you can make it too!
What You Will Need
A Plain White Tote Bag (I found ours at Michaels for $3)
Fabric Paints in the Colors of your choice
How to Make It
Start by gathering your supplies and explaining to your child what you are going to be doing. It is kind of important that they keep their hands still while making the hand prints and if you show them why (on a piece of paper) it can be helpful. Then lay out your white bag and flatten it completely. Next, squirt some paint onto a plate and rub your child’s hand in it.
Try to make sure you rub their hand around the get the paint as even as possible so that you don’t have globs in certain places.
Place your child’s hand on the bag, wherever you would like and roll their fingers down to ensure that you get a good hand print.
Depending on the size of your child’s hand and the size of you bag, determine how many hand prints you will need. They you can alternate colors or keep them all the same and create “petals” in a circular pattern on your bag.
Once your hand prints are done, paint a yellow circle in the center and a green stem and leaves.
Allow your paint to dry completely and your bag is done!
This is a great (and special) way for moms to carry their kids with them where ever they go and makes a perfectly cute tote for all the things we need anyway! So give the mom in your life a new type of flower for Mother’s Day this year with this adorable craft!
