I can’t believe that Mother’s Day is only a month away. And while I personally feel that everyday should celebrate moms, I’m glad that there is one day a year where hopefully our hubbies and kids give us relaxation time and show us how appreciated we are. So, the boys and I have started working on Mother’s Day crafts – just little items that they can give to their grandmas or even me! And today, MillerBug help me put together a Candle Holder that has pictures of him and J-Man all over it. It was super simple and kid-approved (although mom may need to help with the sticky parts). Here’s how you can make a picture votive candle too!
What You Will Need
4 Sided Small Glass Jar
Mod Podge
4 of Your Favorite Pictures
Sand
Scissors
Votive Candle
How to Make It
This is really a simple craft that the kiddos can be very involved in – regardless of their age – so be sure to involve them. Start by setting out your glass jar and picking out your pictures.
Once you have chosen your pictures, let your kiddo help cut them out. Try to aim for the same shape as the sides of your jar but honestly, on this craft it’s more about the sentiment that the finished product.
Brush a thin layer of Mod Podge over the surface of your picture. Don’t worry that it makes it look fuzzy – when it dries it will be completely clear.
Press your picture into one of the side of the glass jar (on the inside) and smooth it out with your fingers.
Then repeat for your other three pictures until all four sides of your glass jar are covered. Once all your pictures are dry, add in some sand to fill the jar and give you something to anchor your votive candle in.
Be sure to add enough sand that it pushes your candle up high so that you don’t have to worry about burning your pictures. Then push your votive candle down in the sand to secure it.
Now all that’s let to do is give that candle to a special mom (or grandma) who will smile every time she looks at happy little faces and knows that sweet little hands created this just for her.
This is really a sweet and special Mother’s Day gift that anyone can make and any mom will love! And, psst….your little one will be so proud that they helped to make this very special gift!
