Are you tired of hearing it yet – we started back to school this week – woo hoo! And while that is mostly good since the kids are busy all day, in another way it’s bad. Because it means I have to get up at a way-to-early hour in the mornings and fix breakfast and lunch. Now, I know, I know – throw some cereal in a bowl and get going is the though that comes to your mind. But my boys like a hot breakfast. And this summer we discovered breakfast bowls. They are yummy, easy and perfect to get my guys going. However, they are kinda expensive! But after looking at them closely, I figured I could make them myself for a fraction of the cost AND control what goes into them – score! So I set out to make breakfast bowls that I could cook ahead of time, pop in the freezer and then simply heat up each morning. Here’s how you can make them too!
What You Will Need
(Makes Approximately 7 Bowls)
8 Large Eggs
1 Pound of Neece’s Sausage
1 Bag of Ore Ida Seasoned Potatoes
2 Cups of Cheddar Cheese
7 Food Storage Containers or Bowls
How to Make Them
Before assembling your bowls, you’ve got to cook all of your ingredients! This is a great way to get your kiddo involved and put them to work. So start by cooking your potatoes according to the direction on your bag. At the same time, cut your sausage (you can substitute bacon, ham, whatever you would like) into slices and then pinch off small pieces into your pan.
While your potatoes and sausage are cooking, go ahead and scramble all of your eggs. Don’t use milk in them as it doesn’t freeze well! Once everything is cooked and drained, you’re ready to assemble your bowls! Start by putting eggs on the bottom. Then add a layer of sausage, a layer of potatoes and top with shredded cheese!
Repeat this process for all of the bowls so that they are even.
Pop the tops on them and you’re ready to freeze! Simply place them in the freezer until you are ready to serve them! When it’s breakfast time, take one out and open it up.
Heat it for one and a half minutes, stir it and heat it for an additional minute and it’s ready to serve!
It’s the perfect morning time treat to get your family going without any of the morning work! So take about 20 minutes this afternoon, whip up some make ahead freezer breakfast bowls and save yourself the hassle of cooking hot meals every morning!
The smiles this warm breakfast will bring to their faces is almost as rewarding as the 10 extra minutes of sleep you’ll be able to sneak in!
