You know they say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Especially in the summer when my kids are at home, I try to find fun and delicious breakfast ideas that will start their mornings right. I need something a little sweet and of course the perfect size for little hands in order to have a hit in my home. And that is exactly what I’ve found with Hazelnut Breakfast Sticks! Here’s how you can make them too!
What You Will Need
8 Slices Whole Wheat Bread, crusts removed
4 oz. Cream Cheese, softened
1 Jar Hazelnut Spread
2 Tbsp. Milk
2 Tbsp. Butter
How to Make Them
Using a rolling pin, start by flattening the bread.
On one side of the flattened bread spread the hazelnut, flip the bread 180˚ and spread the cream cheese on the other side leaving just a little space at the edge to allow for oozing when you roll it up.
Roll tightly starting at the hazelnut side toward the cream cheese side. Set aside.
In a shallow pan or bowl with a bottom wide enough (I use a loaf pan) whisk the eggs and milk together. Then place one stick in at a time and roll in the egg mixture, don’t over saturate. Set aside until ready to cook.
Once your Hazelnut Breakfast Sticks are ready to cook, heat a small skillet over medium heat and let it heat at least 4 minutes. Add 1 Tbsp. of butter and allow it to melt.
Add four sticks seam side down. Let them cook approximately 1 and ½ minutes. Roll Sticks 90˚ and let them cook 1 ½ minutes on the other side. Repeat two more times. Use the sticks and edge of the pan to keep one another from rolling.
Remove your Hazelnut Breakfast Sticks and place them on a plate and dust with powdered sugar.
Repeat with remaining four sticks and 1 Tbsp. of butter. You may need to reduce the heat to medium low.
Serve as is or with warm syrup for dunking and enjoy!
