‘Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse!
Almost every year our count down to Christmas includes this classic poem. The kids giggle as we read through it but this year, my littlest looked up with innocence in his eyes and asked why we didn’t have a Christmas Mouse in our house. After looking at him blankly, I considered the question and from it a fun afternoon of crafting was born.
What You Will Need:
Small Pine cones
Brown and Pink Felt (Construction Paper will work too)
Googly Eyes
Small Red Poms for the Nose
Brown Pipe Cleaners
Hot Glue Gun and Glue
How to Make It:
Start by examining your pine cones and figuring out which side is the most visually appealing. You want them to sit flat and have openings for you to insert the other pieces of your mouse. Once you have selected the best side, you’re ready to get to work!
First, cut out ovals for your ears. You will want your brown oval to be slightly larger than your pink oval so that you can glue them together. Remember these don’t have to be perfect:-) Once they are cut out, glue your pink oval on top of the brown and then add a small dab of hot glue to the bottom of your ears and push them down into the pine cone.
Allow your ears to dry and then move on to your eyes and nose! It’s super simple to give your mouse a cute face. Simply glue two googly eyes to the tips of your pine cone. The glue your red pom to the very tip for the nose.
Finally, cut a small portion of your pipe cleaner and curl the end. Then secure it to the back of your pine cone for the tail.
And that’s it! Your Christmas pine cone Mouse is finished! All that is left to do is enjoy the fun of it!
So this year, as you prepare for your holiday celebrations, add a Christmas mouse to the picture! While it may not stir on Christmas Eve, it will provide lots of fun in the days prior!
These are so cute! They look like they were fun to make. I love how creative this is.
