Growing up, everyone always told me that I looked just like my daddy. I’d blush and of course laugh as they added the expected “but prettier” to the end of their statement since I was a girl. But overall, I was not only OK with this comparison; I was thrilled with it. You see my dad was tall, with long legs and kind eyes and what everyone always said was a beautiful head of hair. Luckily I did get some of his best features…including his thick, dark hair. And now that he’s no longer with us, it’s one of the things that I treasure most about myself. But in the last few years I’ve seen some changes in my hair. What was once my “crown” according to my mom had lost it’s thickness…and it’s luster. So when Vivital asked me to partner with them for a sponsored post sharing what I’ve learned about caring for your beautiful hair, I was beyond excited. Because while you may think as a woman that simply trimming those split ends and washing daily will give you the hair you’ve always dreamed of, I’ve discovered that achieving beautiful, healthy locks can be quite a hairy situation!
Now, before we move forward with what your hair care should look like, let me give you a little look back. I’ve always had super thick hair. Growing up, I kept it long and tirelessly dried and curled it every day. I had that all too popular hair flip down to an art and I’ll be honest, I used my hair in a super flirtatious way! Whether I was rocking a pony tail, letting it fall in waves over my shoulders or wearing it in a fancy up-do, I made sure my hair always looked it’s best.
Then (dun dun dun) I got preggers. And my beautiful little baby wreaked havoc on my body…and my hair. I started shedding. And I don’t mean like a hair or two here or there. I mean massively shedding to where the hubby would joke that I was worse than the dog. At first I tried to ignore it. I figured the problem would correct itself after the birth of my son. But something about that pregnancy just changed my hair completely. I was never able to get it looking healthy again so I did what any reasonable, post-pregnancy woman would do….I chopped it all off!
Armed with my new pixie cut, I was sure that my hair raising problems were a thing of the past. Except I overlooked one important detail….when your hair is not healthy long, cutting it short isn’t going to change that! Now with short hair that was thinning and breaking, I was faced with the reality that I would have to make a change. Whether the issue with my hair was due to lack of vitamins, hormones, stress or simply the fact that I was getting older, I needed to find a way to combat these horrible changes and get my gorgeous hair back!
So, I started researching. I read online articles and asked for recommendations from both my hair dresser and my friends. I avoided heat. I stopped twisting my hair and pulling it off at the roots (did I not mention that I take my stress out on my hair?). And I started using hair vitamins that were designed specifically to strengthen my hair!
Where my own efforts had failed miserably, I soon saw that simply by using hair vitamins, a hair thickening serum and shampoo and conditioners that were designed to nourish my hair made all the difference in the world. My one size fits all philosophy when it came to caring for my hair was out the window and I was a true believer in the fact that just as any other part of your body needs specific products to stay healthy and thrive, so does your hair!
Now I’m finally rediscovering hair that looks it’s best and is full and fabulous. I’m working my way back towards the hair I love one Viviscal product at a time. And I’m here to tell you that what worked for me can absolutely work for you!
Because here’s the thing. No matter what factors of your life are effecting the way your hair looks, it’s never been easier to take control of those beautiful locks and return them to the glory of your youth! Start by finding out more about the causes of thinning hair in women. While most women tend to think that it is hereditary, in reality hair breakage, loss and thinning can be caused by a number of factors.
Once you’ve put your mind at ease about WHY your hair is doing what it’s doing, do something about it! Start by adding a hair vitamin to your daily routine. Then continue by changing out your hair care products to ones that are designed to nourish your hair and encourage growth! By making these small changes today, you’ll be on your way back to beautiful hair tomorrow.
As for me? I may keep my short hair. The sassy look kinda suits me as I get older. But I definitely won’t be keeping it simply to hide the sad state of my hair. I’ll be keeping it because healthy hair looks beautiful at any length and I now have the confidence to know that no matter what goes on and and no matter how quickly the years go by, I’ll have beautiful hair all my life thanks to the science behind Viviscal!

You look adorable with short hair! My hair is long right now, but I’m getting ready to go short again. I love it!
I really wish I could wear my hair like yours but I look like a boy when I do, unlike you who looks so adorable with short hair. Thanks for the tips, my hair is ever changing.
It seems like I am always looking for something different to try for my hair. It would be easier if our hair just stayed the same throughout our lives!
My hair didn’t change at all with either of my pregnancies. I do, however have very naturally curly hair that I pay a smal fortune to get rid of with keratin treatments.
While I don’t have thinning hair, the texture of my hair has changed over the years (not to mention through 2 pregnancies). I would love to do something to make it nice and shiny – and straight! I had not thought about taking vitamins specifically for it, but I am thinking that perhaps I should research more into it. Thanks.
My hair took a 180 after my last pregnancy. I’m still crossing my fingers it’ll revert back to its original state one day, but I need to give these vitamins a shot in the meantime.
As you already know, I love the topic of hair care. These tips are very good ones to learn and use. This product sounds like a nice product.
My hair is so different from when I was a child. Not sure it will ever be the same again!
Wow – it’s so pretty both ways! But I love that you can rock a short do too!
I could probably benefit from this too. I have long hair, but it’s thin and always has been. Pregnancy thickened it up, but then it shed afterwards.

I love this post and how you are rocking the short hair! I totally agree though, season after season I’m noticing bigger and bigger changes with my hair that are out of my shampoo/conditioner’s reach.

It sounds like this could help a lot. My hair has definitely changed over the years.
I’m so happy that my hair isn’t ever-changing. But given that EVERYTHING on my body seems to be changing as I get older, I’m sure my hair is next on the list. I’ll definitely keep these things in mind.
You look beautiful with short hair. I hate to tell you this but just wait for menopause….ugh. Mine has gotten so thin.
That’s SO much information! My hair has changed a lot over the last few years – especially with my thyroid issues. I LOVE that Pixie cut on you!
I’m going to check this out. I’ve never heard of these before but I’m open to try new things.
Your hair looks gorgeous and I love that sassy cut!! I need to look into these products as my hair has gotten very dry lately and a bit dull.
I have been noticing my hair thinning for the last few years. I will have to get some hair vitamins and see if it helps. I love your hair short it looks so cute on you.
The same thing happened to my mom when she had my little brother- her hair never recovered. Luckily my hair is the one thing my last baby didn’t ruin on my body {lol} but I will let my mom know about this!
