It seems like just yesterday my youngest was coming home from the hospital. But time has flown and he’s changed from that sweet little baby that needed mommy for everything into an independent little boy who wants to “Do it myself!”. At first this made me sad….after all, he’s my last baby and I’m not ready for him to grow up. But at the same time I know that grow up he will and as he does my job has begun to change from being the person who took care of everything to the person that finds ways to give him the confidence to conquer situations himself.
Now in many way, I’m not ready to let him take on the world. But when it comes to potty training, well, let’s just say that the more confidence he gets the happier I am! You see, he’s been fully potty trained during the days for over a year now. I’m very fortunate that he just got up one morning, decided he was ready for real underwear and never looked back. Unfortunately, this confidence has not extended to night time yet no matter how desperately he tries. Knowing that he’s old enough to get through the night without wetting his bed and eager to help him have the confidence to go on his very first sleepover, I’ve been working on ways to help him stay dry at night with GoodNites TruFit real underwear.
For him, one of the most exciting parts of potty training has been putting on his big boy underwear each and every morning. But each night, as we get ready for bed, I’ve been reaching for a diaper or pull-up. It hasn’t gone unnoticed to me that as I do, his eager little smile drops and he looks down at the ground. I’ve been worried that he would feel “different” at an upcoming sleepover so when I was recently in CVS and noticed the GoodNites TruFit starter pack, it caught my attention. With the real underwear he so desperately wants combined with disposable protection, it was truly the perfect way to give him overnight confidence and help him work towards dry days AND nights!
Armed with an idea that I thought would give him the confidence to feel completely comfortable when it was bedtime with his friends, I picked up the starter kit and headed home to put together a confidence bag that he could take with him. As soon as I arrived home, I told him I had a great new idea that would allow him to wear real underwear during the day and at night. Immediately his eyes lit up and he was ready to see what I had in mind. I quickly pulled out the GoodNites TruFit Starter Pack and put it on the table with his pajamas and favorite animal.
At first he simply looked at it curiously but as soon as I pulled the stripped underwear out of the bag and he realized that they were made of cloth, he started to get excited.
I quickly and easily showed him how he could wear real cloth underwear just like he does in the day but with the confidence to know that there is no embarrassment if he does have an accident in the night since we can simply change out the disposable pad and wash his cloth night time underwear. I pulled out a disposable GoodNites insert and showed him how easily it fit into his new, super big boy underwear and watched his face light up as he realized that he was still able to wear regular underwear with a little something extra to give him nighttime confidence.
It didn’t take him long to realize that this was an idea he loved and I watched with amusement as he held his underwear up and tried to determine exactly how they would work under his pajamas.
He was thrilled that he now had an option that would allow him to wear cloth underwear all the time, while still keeping him from waking up in a puddle if an accident did happen. And I’ll be honest and say he couldn’t wait to try this new confidence-building option out!
With him excited and me seeing a whole different reaction to getting ready for bedtime, I was pretty sure we had found a solution that would help us work towards our ultimate goal of dry nights. Confident that he would now enjoy his upcoming sleepover, I added his GoodNites TruFit real underwear to his bag, placed in his pajamas and added his animal.
Where only moments before he had been saying he would just stay home, he now glowed with excitement and couldn’t wait to tell his friends that he would be sleeping in big boy underwear.
As I prepared to drop him off at his friend’s house, I was still nervous. But I was now nervous for a whole new set of reasons. I wondered if he would miss his mommy too much. I hoped he wouldn’t wake up scared. But never once did the worry enter my mind that he wouldn’t be confident enough to pull on his GoodNites, get into his pajamas and lay down with his friends, ready for the fun that a first sleepover brings.
I know without a doubt that we’re on the right track to being fully potty trained during the day and night. But until we are, I know that I can trust GoodNite TruFit real underwear to give my preschooler the confidence he needs to have fun, attend sleepovers and simply be one of the kids without the worry and stress of diapers and wet nights.
Going forward, we’ll always have his overnight confidence bag ready and stocked with GoodNites TruFit real underwear. Because whether he’s at home, at a friend’s or at his grandma’s, I love knowing that every night for him going forward will be a good night because it will be a dry night!
