Most of you know that my goal for some time now has been to cook more at home and serve my family delicious meals straight from my own kitchen. And while I’ll admit that I’ve been doing better at it, I’ll also say I’ve struggled for ideas to help keep breakfast, lunch and dinner fresh. After a few nights of hearing “We’re having that again?” from my family, I decided it was time to find a way to breathe some new life into meal time around my home. Little did I know that by searching out a way to discover fresh new recipes, I’d end up creating my own delicious summer dish and publish it in the Food Lion recipe portal!
So how did this entire process start? Well, living in the South I’ve grown up shopping at Food Lion. It’s where my grandma shopped. Where my mom shopped. And now it’s where I shop. But I shop a little different that my mom and my grandma did. Because I always start out my shopping trip by checking the Food Lion website for sales and specials. For me, it’s so easy to see what’s in season, what’s on sale and even create my own shopping list from the convenience of my computer! And recently when I was doing just that I happened to notice that the Food Lion website has a recipe portal as well. Now, as I’m sure you can understand this was super exciting to me because it was recipe inspiration at my fingertips! After selecting a few recipes that I wanted to try, I headed to my local Food Lion for my weekly shopping trip. But in addition to picking up the ingredients for the new recipes I’d found, I also decided to come up with something fresh.
With it being summer and so hot outside, I’ve been making tons of salads. So when I saw that frozen shrimp was on sale and watermelon was in season at Food Lion, I decided that was the perfect combination for a delicious summer salad! Armed with all my ingredients for a light meal on the porch that I could enjoy with my family or eat for lunch while they were not at home, I headed back home to start creating.
With the fresh ingredients from Food Lion, putting together my salad was so simple!
The quality of every item left me ready to taste my final product and as I cooked away, inspiration hit! I remembered my excitement only hours before finding inspiration on the Food Lion website. And as I watched my shrimp sizzle on the grill, I knew this was a recipe I would have to share with other as well!
Once my shrimp came off the grill and I had assembled my Shrimp and Watermelon Salad topped with fresh homemade dressing, I grabbed my camera, snapped a few shots (you all know how much I like to photograph my food) and uploaded it to the Food Lion recipe portal. I have to say adding my recipe was so simple! I put in pictures, added easy instructions and was able to view and edit my submission before officially sending it in. Once I submitted my mouth watering new recipe, I simply waited for Food Lion to approve it and then ta-da, it was displayed on their site so that everyone else could enjoy getting their own summer salad on with this tasty dish!
As my family sat down to our delicious dinner that night, I was thrilled with what I’d been able to create using ingredients from Food Lion. But I was even more thrilled that I had the chance to share my amazing meal and hopefully give others a little inspiration they are looking for in the kitchen!
Going forward, I’m sure I’ll be making this salad again and I hope many of you will try it too by grabbing the recipe on the Food Lion recipe portal.
But I won’t let my kitchen creativity stop there! Because I know have an endless list of amazing recipes for every meal of the day that I found on the Food Lion website! From breakfast to lunch to dinner, mixing things up just got much easier thanks to shopper submitted recipe ideas that are easy to follow and look amazing!
Whether you’re a whiz or a novice in the kitchen, I highly encourage you to check out the Food Lion recipe portal for ideas, inspiration and recipes that your whole family will love! Then mix it up. Get creative. Try new things. And when you stumble across a new recipe in your own kitchen that you know others would love, easily add it to the Food Lion recipe portal so moms like me who are in search of delicious new ideas can try it too!
