Growing up, I never though I would enjoy cooking. In fact, when my mom would show me easy recipes and try to teach me the basics, I would half listen and then run off as soon as I got a chance. It wasn’t until I got married and had a family of my own that I discovered how much I enjoy cooking. At first I simply experimented with dishes that were easy to make. But as my confidence grew so did my knowledge and I began cooking dishes from scratch and incorporating more fresh items. I’ll admit it…I fell in love. Each and every night I’d head in the kitchen, whip up something amazing and sit my family down for a delightful dinner. But when the meal was over and it was time for cleanup to begin? Well, that’s when I would lose steam and find myself frustrated.
Knowing that there had to be a better way, I’ve been looking for a safe way to clean while cooking for some time now. I’ve wanted something that was effective but was safe enough to use while I was in the process of cleaning…instead of something that had to be used totally separate from my food; something that made it so easy to clean that I didn’t feel like it took away from the joy of cooking. Because to me, cooking is one of the small pleasures in life and I needed to ensure that cleaning up anything from full fledged meals to simple fruits salads could be as well.
Since I’ve been looking for a more natural way to clean for some time, I always peruse the natural cleaning aisles on my weekly trips to Target. I’ve seen the Clorox Green Works line a few time and even tried some of the products in it. Knowing that their products boast plant- and mineral-based cleaning ingredients, I’ve been excited about incorporating then into my kitchen cleaning routine. But recently on my Target trip I spotted something brand new!
Nestled between the affordable and effective Green Works items I had already seen was a little bottle that was calling my name! The Green Works Pump N’ Clean Kitchen and Dish Cleaner was the perfect size for my kitchen counter and best of all it boasted the ability to quickly clean surfaces, dishes, cutting boards and more all while being safe to use side by side with my favorite foods!
Knowing in my heart that this was exactly what I’d been looking for, I grabbed a bottle (OK, two if we’re being honest) and headed home to put it to the test. Not only did I want to see how well it worked but I also wanted to try the novel idea of cleaning while I cooked, eliminating the need for my after meal dread!
As soon as I arrived home, I set to work making lunch for the kids. Since it’s been so warm outside, I had been wanting to fix them a light fruit salad. It’s such a simple dish but it does require lots of cutting…and lots of cleaning my cutlery in between fruits.
As I set my container of Green Works Pump N’ Clean Kitchen and Dish Cleaner on the counter and pulled out my favorite cutting board, I’ll admit that I got a little bit excited. Call me a food geek if you want but the idea of getting a natural clean without harsh chemical fumes and resides and being able to clean while I cooked had me just a little excited!
What You Will Need:
1 Cup of Fresh Strawberries
1 Pineapple (Cored)
1/2 Cup of Fresh Blueberries
1/4 Cup of Pineapple Juice
1 Teaspoon of Lemon Juice
1/3 Teaspoon of Honey
Chopped Almonds (for Garnish)
I started by laying out all my fruit on my beautiful wooden cutting board. Now I’m going to be honest and say I rarely use this cutting board because it stains so badly. But I had faith in my Green Works Pump N’ Clean Kitchen and Dish Cleaner and I really wanted to put it to the test since I knew it was perfect for use on all foods except for raw meat and fish!
Then one fruit at a time, I cut my fruits into bite sized pieces. I loved that with the convenience of the Pump N’ Clean design I was able to use one hand to pump my cleaner out in between cutting fruits.
That made it easy to clean my knife, my cutting board and even my counters, all while cleaning.
And with the fresh scent and all natural ingredients of the Pump N’ Go, I didn’t worry that I was getting chemicals on my food.
Once all my fruits were cut up and placed in a bowl, I mixed together my pineapple juice, lemon juice and honey and poured it over the top, tossing my fruit in the mixture gently. Then I sprinkled almond slivers over the top and my simple fruit salad was complete!
As I quickly wiped down my knives, counter and cutting board, I was amazing at how easy clean up was! All I needed was a cloth and my Green Works Pump N’ Clean to ensure that getting rid of the mess was as easy as making it had been.
Now I’ve changed the way I cook…and clean. This summer and all year long I’ll be enjoying clean up that’s as simple as pump and wipe! And thanks to the Green Works line, I’ll do it all without worrying about exposing my food, my family or my kitchen to chemicals!
