Our official back to school countdown has begun. In just a few short days the kids will be dusting off their book bags, sharpening their pencils and heading back into the classroom. I know that this means the slow paced summer mornings are coming to an end for both me and the kids. In preparation, I’m doing a little back to school planning and as part of that I’ve partnered with Wet Ones® + Pepperidge Farm® for a sponsored post. While compensation was received, all opinions are my own.
This school year is requiring quite a bit of preparation on my part. In that past, I’ve only had to get one kid ready and out the door. I’ll be honest and say that my youngest usually stays in his PJ’s until we get home from school drop off. Then I hurriedly dress him, take him to preschool and start my workday. But this year things are different. BOTH boys will be in that same school bright and early and that means this mama has got to get a move on in the mornings. In preparation for these rapidly approaching busy mornings, I’ve been rethinking what goes into my boys’ lunchboxes. And each time I go to Walmart, I’ve been searching for items that simplify my morning process.
Recently on just such a trip, I decided it was time to figure out how to tackle the lunchbox situation. Now, for those of you who are not moms of boys, you may not know about the lunchbox situation. But let me tell you, the struggle is real! Each morning of the school year, I have to come up with ideas that the kids will eat..which most often includes items they can pick up with their hands since they are boys. With their desire to only have items in their lunchbox which do not require utensils comes the need to ensure that they have clean hands before AND after they get done eating. This is not an easy task I can assure you!
But on my recent shopping trip, I found a few ways to make my daily task easier. I really stumbled onto these solutions by mistake but I have to say, it just makes so much sense. Let’s start with Wet Ones® singles. All summer the boys have been using Wet Ones® out of the canister at my urging when they come in from playing outdoors before meals. However, I KNEW that with the craziness of their school schedules, packing a canister of wipes in their book bag wasn’t going to be overly successful. But as soon as I saw these single wrapped Wet Ones® wipes which kill 99.9% of germs, I knew I had a solution that I could put right into their lunchboxes and every time they peeked inside they would remember that mommy says to clean their hands before and after every meal!
These individually wrapped wipes came perfectly packaged in a box that was easy to store, making it simple for me to keep them in the pantry right next to essential lunch time items. And their size made them small enough to put in the kids’ lunchbox daily!
I was super excited about the ability to encourage the boys to clean their hand even when I wasn’t around but I wasn’t done shopping yet! Next I headed to the snack aisle looking for easy foods that would fit perfectly into their little hands. My little guy spotted the Pepperidge Farm® Goldfish Crackers display first and I knew within five seconds flat that we weren’t getting out of the store without this perfect school day snack.
After choosing his favorite Cheddar Goldfish Crackers, I looked in my cart and my brain started to turn. With the items I had at home in addition to the items that were in my cart, I could create really amazing lunchboxs for both the boys that would give them the foods they wanted and an easy way to clean their hands!
After heading the the register and making my back to school purchase, all that was left to do was head home and start dreaming up ideas for out of this world lunches that my kids won’t be able to get enough of. And while I wasn’t sure what all would fill their lunch boxes yet, I knew that the two items I had just purchased would be essentials!
As you prep for back to school, I encourage you to include Wet Ones® and Pepperidge Farm® Goldfish Crackers in your preparations! And just in case you need more ideas or inspiration, be sure to check back next week when I’ll be sharing tips for packing the perfect back to school lunch!
