♪ ♫ ♬ Fill the kitchen with festive recipes..falalalala, la, la, la, la. ♪ ♫ ♬ Do you like my song? Because it’s what I’ve been singing all month. Seriously, this time of year any chance I get to whip up a festive dish, I’m all about it. I really think one of the gifts I give to my family during the holiday season is food….delicious dishes that speak volumes without me ever having to utter a word. Over the years, I’ve created some pretty special recipes. I’ve discovered holiday classics and come up with some awesome creations. But one thing that my family always asks for is my tried and true cheese ball made with Kraft Philadelphia Cream Cheese.
For years now, this has been the main appetizer at our Christmas Eve dinner. With it’s rich creamy taste that everyone adores, it’s just the perfect way to kick off the most wonderful time of the year. But this year, I decided to mix things up a little. I wanted to give my cheese ball a festive makeover and add some seasonal tastes that I knew would take this classic appetizer to a whole new level. And since you all KNOW that pomegranate is the flavor of the season in my mind, it only made sense to transform my plain cheese ball into a wholesome Pomegranate, Ginger and Walnut Cheese Ball that boasts bold flavors and a festive feel!
To start my cheese ball, I of course needed my ingredients. And since this holiday season I’ve been finding everything I need for amazing meals and festive celebrations at Walmart, I headed there to pick up my Kraft Philadelphia Cream Cheese.
Nestled in the dairy and cheese section, this staple in my holiday appetizer looked like a little piece of heaven from the very start. Just by seeing the outside of the 8 ounce container, I knew this was the ingredient that would make my cheese ball smooth and delicious. After picking up two 8 ounce packages with my $1.00 off two Philadelphia Cream Cheese coupon that’s valid from December 13th through February 13th, I grabbed the rest of my ingredients and headed home to make over my family’s favorite appetizer into a truly Christmas worthy treat!
Once I arrived home, I laid out all of my ingredients and got to work putting together my creation.
What You Will Need:
8 Ounces of Kraft Philadelphia Cream Cheese
4 Ounces of Mascarpone Cheese
2 Tablespoons of Freshly Grated Ginger
1/2 Cup of Finely Chopped Walnuts
1 Large Pomegranate
Crackers of Your Choice
How to Make It:
I started out by adding my Kraft Philadelphia Cream Cheese and Mascarpone Cheese to my mixer.
Then using the slow setting, I blended it together until it was smooth and creamy.
While my cheese was blending together, I peeled and grated two teaspoons of fresh ginger root.
Now I should mention here that ginger root is somewhat spicy so depending on your family’s tolerance for heat, you may want to use more or less. I’ve found that two tablespoons adds just enough kick to really compliment the cream cheese and make this appetizer delicious! Once my ginger was grated, I added it to my cheese mixture and blended it all together.
Next I folded in my walnut pieces, making sure that my ratio of cheese to walnuts was not too much to keep my cheese ball from sticking together. As a practice, I try to have one fourth of the amount of walnuts that I have of cheese.
Finally, I shaped my cheese mixture into a loose ball and placed it on a piece of cling wrap.
After wrapping my cheese ball securely, I placed it in the refrigerator for about half an hour.
While my cheese was cooling, I removed the arils (did you that was what Pomegranate seeds are called?) from my Pomegranate and laid them out on paper towels so that any excess moisture could drain from them.
I’ll admit I ate a few while I was waiting because the burst of flavor that comes from these sweet little morsels is just amazing and I knew without a doubt that is was going to blend perfectly with the taste of Kraft Philadelphia Cream Cheese! Once my cheese ball had been in the refrigerator for half and hour, I removed it and finished shaping it into a ball.
Then I let it warm slightly so that the cheese would get slightly sticky. Once this was accomplished, I gently rolled my cheese ball in my pomegranate arils, using my fingers to gently push them in and fill in any while spaces.
With my entire cheese ball covered with pomegranate, all that was left to do was add it to a plate with some crackers and serve it to my waiting family.
Just like that I had created a take on our classic cheese ball that looked fabulously festive and tasted amazingly delicious!
With each bite that was taken, there were oohs and aahs and definitely yums that were uttered.
And right then and there I knew we had created a new holiday tradition that we will be enjoying for years to come!
Because just as in the past, the smooth and creamy taste of a cheese ball made with Kraft Philladelphia Cream Cheese is always a hit. And by dressing it up in a festive way this year, I ensured it’s a tradition that we’ll carry on for many Christmases to come!
