Right now, my home is all football, all the time. With the big game coming up and our team actually being in it (woo hoo), the pressure is higher than ever to nail my game day snacks and create delicious options that are as epic as the game itself. Since the big game last year, we’ve been planning this year’s celebration and while we usually keep things kinda low key, this year we’re partying it up big and have invited a house full of people over to enjoy watching with us. This excites me to no end because, well, you guys know I love a good party! But it also means that it’s time to get in the kitchen and step up my game with delicious dips and dippers that everyone is sure to love!
Knowing that I need plenty of amazing food to satisfy the throng of fans that will soon be descending on my home, I recently headed to Sam’s club to see if inspiration would strike. As I perused aisle after aisle, nothing was really screaming perfect game day food at me….until I spotted the Ragu®! With it’s long-standing tradition and quality ingredients, it was the perfect base for a number of game day dishes that were sure to delight my guests. After stocking up on a bulk package of my beloved Ragu®, I let my mind go crazy coming up with ideas to serve up this staple in a new and unique way.
As I stared at my bottles of Ragu® sauce, I tried to think of the items that embody game day to me. I knew I wanted a delicious dip and thankfully Ragu® was the perfect place to start! With it’s bold flavors, I knew it would create an amazing base for a layered lasagna skillet dip that everyone would go crazy over!
What You Will Need:
1 45 Ounce Jar of Ragu® Traditional Tomato Sauce
1 Pound of Lean Ground Beef
1 Package of Frozen Spinach
1 Cup of Ricotta Cheese
1 Cup of Mozzarella Cheese
Parsley (for Garnish)
How to Make It:
This layered lasagna skillet dip is so simple to make but is sure to be a game day favorite! Trust me when I say that everyone will be dipping up deliciousness the minute you pull it out of the oven. To start my skillet dip, I browned my hamburger meat, drained the grease and mixed in my Ragu® traditional tomato sauce.
Since I wanted the flavors of my Ragu® to really shine, I went heavier with the sauce in comparison to my other ingredients. While I allowed my sauce to simmer, I cooked my spinach and prepared to assemble my dip.
To create my layered lasagna dip, I started by adding half of my ricotta cheese to the bottom of my skillet and spreading it out. Next, I added half of my spinach to the top of my ricotta.
On top of my spinach went a generous portion of my Ragu® sauce mixture.
Then on top of my Ragu® I sprinkled half of my cheese.
I repeated my layers a second time to ensure that there were amazing flavors from each layer in each and every bite.
Then I placed my skillet in the oven on 350 degrees for fifteen minutes.
As soon as my timer chimed, letting me know that my dip was cooked to perfection, I removed it from the oven and was greeted with an aroma that only dishes made with Ragu® can deliver!
After placing my skillet full of fabulousness on the table, I surrounded it with bread chips (you can also use tortilla chips, pita or even veggies) and was ready to serve my amazing game day appetizer.
With each dip, it was clear to see that this layered lasagna skillet dip is the true star of the big game. Because while who’s on the field may matter, what’s on the table matters more!
But I didn’t stop with just my amazing dip because while it was absolute perfection, I wanted to pair something else with it that was sure to compliment the flavors of my dip perfectly. Sticking with the same cheesy theme matched with the flavors of Ragu®, I quickly pulled some cheese sticks out of my refrigerator and cut them in half.
Then I placed then in the freezer just long enough to really make sure they were cold. Once I removed my cheese sticks from the freezer, I quickly beat an egg and added some bread crumbs and parsley to a plate.
Then all I had to do was roll my frozen cheese sticks in the egg mixture, followed immediately by rolling them in the bread crumb mixture.
After placing them on a baking sheet, they went straight into the oven on 400 degrees for 5-6 minutes.
It was really important to watch them carefully as one minute can make the difference between crispy cheese sticks and melty cheese mounds.
After removing them from the oven, I paired them with a warm bowl of Ragu® traditional tomato sauce for dipping and had the perfect item to compliment my layered lasagna skillet dip!
Both of these delicious game day dishes will be served front and center at my big game party because, let’s face it…..this is what football food looks like!
And by buying at Sam’s Club, I’m assured I have plenty of Ragu® for dipping, creating and making game day delicious!
