I know, I know….Valentine’s Day is over but really, in my home, February is the month of love. It’s a time to show the kiddos that sharing is caring and a time to make them feel extra special in ways that may seem small to me but make a big difference to them. Knowing that both of my kiddos are super creative and love nothing more than when I transform their food into something fun, I decided that there was no better time than the month of February to create some lovable snack containers and fill them with their favorite delicious snack!
Now, I will admit that this idea started with their Valentine’s Day party. Since we’re a huge Goldfish® crackers family I of course completed their treats to hand out at school with fun little bags filled with Goldfish snacks. And well, like I always do, I bought extras for lunchtime and afterschool snacks so that we could craft, cook and create with them. Because of this, I knew my pantry was prepared for my Goldfish crackers loving kiddos. But what I didn’t know was how quickly they would ask for more special Goldfish snacks. Of course, I was more than happy to oblige them but after seeing how I had transformed their Valentine’s Day snack, both the kids kept asking for me to up my snack time game and make something fun.
After thinking through quite a few ideas and lamenting over how my rough and tumble boys always crush their bags of Goldfish snacks in their bookbags, inspiration hit and I decided to create lovable little friends for them that would make snack time extra fun while reminding them that mom is silly, fun and crazy about my special boys….and their snacks.
What You Will Need:
4 Ounce Mason Jars (*Plastic bags can be substituted – see bottom of post)
Mustache and Lip Stickers
How to Make Them:
Now, I have to admit I started out making these fun little lovable snack containers as an idea for my boys but after my youngest son’s best friend (who happens to be a girl) asked why his snacks only boasted boy faces, I mixed things up a little bit and created some girl ones as well. Even better, once I discovered how much fun these containers were to make, I got the kiddos in on the action and let them make them for their friends (after all, we do love to spread the love). Creating them only takes minutes and if your kids are like mine, you’ll be amazed at how big of a response they get.
We started by pulling out all our supplies (and munching on a few Goldfish crackers in the process since they are the perfect snack to eat and play with).
Next, we turned our containers around to the smooth side and glued on some googly eyes.
Next, we stuck on our mustaches and lips (I encourage reinforcing this step with a little hot glue if your kids are like mine). I loved this idea because the lovable snack containers looked like something we would have given for Valentine’s Day, ensuring that we prolonged the loving feeling that special day brings.
Then we filled our fun new friends with the snack my boys both beg for….Goldfish crackers.
Now I have to say at this point, our lovable snack containers were looking pretty cute but you know me…I’m all about the details! So to finish things up, I attached a pipe cleaner around the top of my lid for a pop of color that made our snack containers extra fun.
After repeating the process and filling all of our containers, I had the perfect way to share a little love with my boys, either in their lunchboxes or at home after school. Our lovable snack containers were such a fun way to make snack time extra special and just by making a little effort, I was able to remind my boys that mom loves them enough to get crafty and creative just to show them how much I care.
Now, both of my boys are determined to spread the love with their friends just like I’m spreading the warm, happy feelings to them with these lovable snack containers!
In fact, they decided that even though Valentine’s Day is over, this would be a perfect snack to share to remind all their friends how much they love them!
And from this sharing idea, we mixed things up a little bit to create a plastic bag option for all you mamas with kiddos who like to give gifts or who tend to throw away containers (I feel ya, really I do).
*As an alternative to mason jar containers for these fun snacks, you can simply substitute small plastic bags! By making this easy change, it’s simple to take fun snacks on the go or even share them with friends to keep the Valentine’s Day love going! To make them, we simply filled small plastic treat bags with our Goldfish crackers.
After tying a bow around the opening and making sure it looked a little like a bow tie, we followed the steps we used for our lovable snack containers and glued on eyes and a mustache/lips.
And just like that, we had a fun alternate idea that is completely disposable after snack time!
So there you have it! No matter whether you choose to use Mason Jars or disposable plastic bags, remember that making snack time memorable is the perfect way to show your love, not just in February but throughout the year!
So grab your kiddos! Pull out those craft supplies. And then find the most creative way you can to ensure your kids feel (and share) the love with each and every bite of their favorite snack!
