Every time I look out of my window and see the flowers popping through the ground and the sun shining brilliantly on my yard, I’m reminded that Spring is indeed on it’s way. In no time at all I know I will be flinging open the doors to my home and letting all that fresh Spring air through my house. And while I seriously can’t wait for it to officially be Spring, I’m doing a little prep work and simplifying my Spring Cleaning so that my home is just as ready for the warmer weather as I am!
Now, I know what you’re thinking….I just moved into a new home six months ago….how much cleaning can it need? And the question is a lot! Remember that I have two boys and a hubby and well, I’m not the best at staying on top of my organization! So there are areas of my beautiful new home that are a little cluttered. That need a little refreshing. That, well, need to be ready for Spring! Since in the past I’ve been completely overwhelmed by Spring cleaning, this year I decided to simplify things with a few simple steps and a printable checklist (be sure to grab yours here) that are making getting my home in shape as easy as 1-2-3!
Step 1: Stock up on Cleaning Essentials
If you read only one sentence in this post, let it be this one: Make sure you have the cleaning products you need BEFORE you start your Spring cleaning! See, it’s even in bold there so you won’t miss it because let me tell you, this is how I get off track in my Spring cleaning every time. I’m all motivated, have my tunes blasting and then realize that I’m out of Viva® Big Roll Paper Towels. Or that I don’t have my favorite cleaner. And by the time I change clothes, get to the store, stock up and get back home I’ve lost all motivation to clean!
So before I even get to the point where I’m thinking about starting my Spring cleaning, I head to Walmart and stock up on essentials.
I make sure I have plenty of paper products that make cleaning easier. I stockpile Viva® Vantage with it’s scrubby texture because let’s face it, nothing works better in my home on all my different surfaces! From scrubbing the baked on food off of my stove to wiping down my cabinets, these paper towels stand up to my Spring cleaning jobs in a mighty way!
Once I make sure all of my cleaning supplies are in stock and ready for my use, I’m ready to take Spring cleaning and give my home a bright new outlook just in time for the warmer weather.
In general, making sure I simply have everything I need on hand to help ensure that once I start my Spring cleaning job, I can see it through to completion puts me on the track to Spring cleaning successs. While brings me to step 2.
Step 2: Make a List (and Check it Twice)
Confession: I don’t particularly enjoy cleaning. Shocker right! And while the right products make it easier, I know that for me, having an easy checklist that helps me stay on track is key!
Now, before you start going “But you missed this”, this is a list that keeps me on track. It gives me a broad idea of what needs to be done in each room. And generally once those things are done, I can see if there are any additional areas I need to hit.
And since I can carry my checklist from room to room and physically mark off items as I do them, it’s a great way for me to stay motivated! Plus, it reminds me to do little things like restock the bathroom with Cottonelle® Clean Care with CleanRipple Texture so that the little bums in my home will be just as clean as the rooms are!
By having a list that I can work my way down, I’m much more likely to actually finish my Spring cleaning instead of abandoning it half way through when I forget what has been done and what is still left to do!
Step 3: Designate a Cleaning Time (and Walk Away When You’re Done!)
While I’d like to say that I’m supermom and tackle that whole checklist in one day, it’s just not true. After all, I still have kids, a hubby, work and responsibilities. So for me, the key to Spring cleaning success is setting aside a time each day and walking away when that time is over! Now, during Spring cleaning week, I do try to allocate more time for cleaning but if it’s only two hours a day, I’m fine with that!
Even if it means splitting up rooms or tackling one area a day, by giving myself the freedom to do things at my pace with cleaning supplies that work for me, I’m much more successful in my Spring cleaning venture!
So there you have it! My tips for making Spring cleaning simple. It’s easy to see that starting with the right products makes a huge difference in the outcome so start there today!
