With Labor Day weekend quickly approaching (OMG, right?), I’ve been turning all my attention to grill worthy recipes that are sure to thrill and delight the people in my life….who just happen to be my guys! It seriously seems like anytime we have a get together, it’s all big guy appetites between my hubby, tween, and all of their friends. So that is the reason that I need ways to grill legendary, and come up with hearty meals that are bursting with flavor and of course when I think unforgettable grilled dinners the first thing that comes to mind is bacon! I’ve discovered that I can up the ante with that bacon by adding some steak and then throwing in cream cheese just for good measure, I wrap it all up into grilled bacon and steak pinwheels that are sure to satisfy all the man-sized appetites at my Labor Day cookout.
Now, I’ll tell you that my hubby immediately licked his lips when I proposed this grilling recipe but then he asked where it had come from. After explaining to him that I was upping our grill game with a little help from some SPORTS LEGENDSAND RECIPES ON THE WRIGHT® BRAND LEGENDS PAGE, I got to work explaining how this epic dish was going to come together. You see, after taking in the amazingly drool-worthy recipes that are perfect for Labor Day grilling and are definitely man-sized, I had decided that I must grill legendary myself (or enlist the hubby to at least). So I headed to Walmart and picked up my essential grilling ingredient; Wright® Brand Naturally Hickory Smoked Bacon.
This hand-selected, trimmed bacon that is 100% wood smoked over hickory chips and thick cut was the perfect way to make my Labor Day dishes legendary. Since I can easily pick it up at Walmart when I’m doing all of my weekly shopping, it was the perfect inspiration for an unforgettable dish.
After finding my starting point of Wright® Brand Naturally Hickory Smoked Bacon it was a short hop, skip and jump to coming up with a dish that felt really man worthy (and could even be eaten without forks….score!).
What You Will Need:
1 24-ounce Package of Wright® Brand Naturally Hickory Smoked Bacon
1 Pound of Steak (Sliced Thin)
4 Ounces of Cream Cheese
2 Tablespoons of Cilantro
How to Make It:
This tasty dish is so easy to make and let me say, it’s crazy fun to put together as well. To start, I enlisted the help of my grill master (AKA the hubs) and told him what I wanted to do. He quickly thought through his grilling experience and in no time at all had come up with the exact way to make my dish a reality. To start, we lined a baking pan with aluminum foil and laid out our Wright® Brand Naturally Hickory Smoked Bacon.
But instead of going to the oven (wait for it) our pan of bacon went right onto our preheated grill….legendary, right?
After closing the top of the grill, we cooked each side for about 90 seconds, just long enough to start the cooking process and make our bacon easy to work with. As soon as the bacon was warm throughout and starting to brown on the edges, we removed it from the grill and placed it with our other prepared ingredients.
Now came the fun part…assembling our grilled bacon and steak pinwheels. To start, we laid out three strips of our grilled bacon on a cutting board.
A piece of thin sliced steak, a fourth of the cream cheese and a fourth of the cilantro went on top.
Then we simply rolled it all up, using the Wright® Brand Naturally Hickory Smoked Bacon as the “glue” to hold our creation together.
After completely rolling up each bacon and steak pinwheel, we secured our bacon with toothpicks and we were ready to get grilling.
Onto the grill went our bacon and steak pinwheels to cook for about three minutes on each side.
One they were done, the bacon was sizzling while the steak was cooked to medium. We immediately removed them from the grill and allowed them to cool slightly.
Then, using tongs to avoid burning our fingers, we cut each bacon and steak roll into three to four slices, creating our adorable pinwheels.
After placing them on a serving dish, I quickly mixed together one cup of sour cream, one avocado and two teaspoons of horseradish in my mixer to create a creamy avocado horseradish dip and my legendary grill creation was ready to be served.
With the crunch of Wright® Brand Naturally Hickory Smoked Bacon, the meaty texture of the steak and the creamy filling of cream cheese and cilantro, it was a finger food that was definitely man worthy.
And when dipped into the perfect avocado horseradish, the explosion of flavors made everyone gasp. We quickly decided that this is truly the PERFECT Labor Day dish for guys (and gals) who want to grill legendary while serving up something amazing.
