I think it goes without saying that my mornings are crazy. As a busy mom, I’ll admit that it’s easy to put everyone else’s needs over my own. In the past that meant skipping breakfast and imposing on myself a rough start to the day. But over the last ten months, I’ve made some major changes in how I treat my body. What started as a New Year’s resolution to lose a little weight and get a little active has turned into a complete lifestyle change. And the center of this new way of living is a healthy breakfast that sets me up to be successful for the whole day. Where I used to think that mornings were just too busy and my healthy lifestyle could start AFTER I drop the kids off at school, I’ve now discovered that I owe it to myself to start each day the best way possible and for me that means with a bowl of Maple and Brown Sugar Better Oats Oat Fit® Oatmeal or my homemade simple Maple and Brown Sugar Oatmeal Granola.
So first, I guess I need to tell you why breakfast matters for me. I’ve never been much of a breakfast eater. I have a very bad habit of jumping into the day with an empty stomach and ending up riffling through my pantry around 11 am, eating everything in sight. However, once I started paying more attention to nutrition, I discovered that this was one of the worst ways I could sabotage myself. So, I knew I needed to make breakfast a priority in my day. But then I had to find a breakfast that tasted great, helped keep me full and fit with my caloric goals. After a lot of time spent in the breakfast aisle of my local Kroger comparing boxes and labels, I discovered that Oat Fit is exactly what I had been looking for.
With its great-taste that’s always satisfying, the Maple and Brown Sugar variety of Better Oats Oat Fit is my go to breakfast that’s low on calories but big on taste! And the best part is, with whole grain oats in every bite, it helps me feel full longer! After discovering this simple to make breakfast that is a good source of fiber and only has 100 calories per pouch, I knew that my morning routine was about to change. After all, how often do I get to indulge in the sweet rich flavors of maple syrup and brown sugar in the morning without the guilt? After discovering this easy breakfast, I quickly added it to my daily routine. And while I love starting each morning with an easy to whip up bowl of Oat Fit that has no added sugar and is naturally low in fat, I decided it was time to mix things up a little bit and turn this morning favorite into a simple Maple and Brown Sugar Oatmeal Granola.
What You Will Need:
1/3 Cup of Brown Sugar
1/3 Cup of Honey
1/2 Cup of Crushed Almonds
How to Make It:
While I adore the delicious flavors of Oat Fit Maple and Brown Sugar Instant Oatmeal alone, I do believe that variety is the spice of life and I love to mix up my morning meal. While most days a warm bowl of oatmeal hits the spot, occasionally I want to add a little crunch to my life. With this Oatmeal Granola, it’s easy to take the delicious flavors and nutritional benefits of Oat Fit and make it the perfect topping for my morning yogurt. To start, I added my brown sugar and honey to a mixing bowl.
Next, I added my almonds to a plastic bag, used a rolling pin to crush then and then poured them on top of my brown sugar and honey mixture.
Finally, I ripped open my pouches of Oat Fit Maple Brown Sugar Instant Oatmeal and poured them into my bowl.
After gently mixing all of my ingredients together, I was ready to transfer my prepared oatmeal granola to a greased baking sheet.
Into an oven preheated to 250 degrees my mixture went for an hour and fifteen minutes, until the oatmeal granola was crunchy.
Once my oatmeal granola was cooked to perfection, I removed it from the oven, allowed it to cool and added it to a jar for storage.
Now, no matter my mood in the mornings, I know I can fuel my day with the filling, low calorie benefits of Oat Fit Instant Oatmeal. Some days I simple cook it up according to the directions on the package.
Others I pull out my Maple and Brown Sugar Oatmeal Granola and use it as a crunchy topping for my yogurt.
But the great thing is, no matter how I enjoy it, I love knowing that I’m starting every day with a low calorie way to add fiber and Omega-3 to my diet that always tastes great.
And whether the day has me working, chasing kids or fitting in a workout, I never have to worry that I’m going to be low on energy or short on the fuel I need to make my day productive.
