I’ll be honest, I’ve never really been a cruiser. In fact, that last time I went on a cruise I was in high school. But for some time now I’ve been hearing about how a Disney Cruise is an unmatched experience that I just had to try for myself. Knowing that both of my boys adore Disney in general, it was on my to-do list but I just hadn’t gotten around to moving forward with any plans. So when my invitation to the Disney Social Media Moms Land and Sea Celebration landed in my email, I was more than excited. After a little planning and figuring how to work out taking the kids out of school, we were set for a magical experience that included a few days in Disney World followed by a voyage aboard the Disney Wonder. In the coming day, I’ll be sharing more of my experience but now that I’m back on solid land, I just couldn’t wait to share my thoughts on the Disney Cruise and give you my five reasons to cruise with Disney.
At the top of my list when choosing a vacation destination is the fun to be had and I have to say, FUN is what it’s all about when you cruise with Disney. From the moment we stepped on board the ship, it was like one big party started and never stopped. There were endless activities, celebrations and ways to entertain ourselves. As we set sail, we were invited to take part in a Bon Voyage party that boasted Disney characters, great music and lots of excitement.
From that moment on, it was like the party never ended. Whether it was days spent playing ping pong and basketball (yes, much to my oldest’s delight there were basketball courts ON THE SHIP)….
Pirate parties and fireworks over the sea (where else will you EVERY see that?)….
Or simply immersing ourselves in all the ship had to offer, there was never a shortage of fun to be had aboard the Disney Wonder. From the moment we woke up until we fell into bed at night, there was as much to do as we wanted to. My littlest could have gone all day with all the activities and offerings in the kid’s club.
And there was even time for relaxation with by the pool…which is this mama’s favorite kind of fun!
All the fun we had surely did work up an appetite each and every day and the Disney Wonder didn’t disappoint when it was time for meals. From their always available pizza bar (which my oldest took advantage of daily) to never ended soft-serve ice cream (yes seriously) to amazing nightly meals in their three restaurants, when you cruise with Disney, the food is top of the line! We had the chance to eat a Triton’s (Little Mermaid inspired), Tiana’s Place (Princess and the Frog inspired) and Animator’s Palace (Disney inspired) and each one was truly magical. With decor that transported us into the Disney magic and meals that were truly drool worthy, the food was one of the high points of our voyage!
Dinner each night consisted of a four course meal that offered something for everyone in the family. I honestly found that the hardest part was choosing what to eat…but thankfully our server would bring extras when we just couldn’t decide so that we had a chance to try everything!
There were even light menus offered each evening which I so appreciated! As many of you know, I’m not used to big meals and the option for a citrus lobster salad was literally perfection on some of those nights!
No matter what mood we were in during meal times, there were always options to thrill and delight on our cruise with Disney and when paired with the entertainment that constantly surrounds you on the ship, it ensured we looked forward to each meal we had the chance to experience!
Each night during our three day voyage aboard the Disney Wonder was filled with entertainment that was truly mesmerizing. From the Golden Mickeys to Disney Dreams to a Frozen Spectacular, each evening boasted a new show that was created to enchant both children and adults alike.
I have to say, the shows were an absolute highlight for my youngest and I adored watching him cheer and the expression of complete joy on his face as each moment of the show unfolded before his eyes. Since he hasn’t been to many lives shows, this was really an area that captured his attention and added a huge value to our time on the Disney Wonder. And each time Mickey stepped out on the stage…..well, it was just a reminder why there is nothing that can compare to a cruise with Disney!
The Private Island
As if being on this amazing ship wasn’t enough fun for our family, during our third day of the cruise we were able to visit Castaway Cay in the Bahamas. This pristine private island was truly paradise and offered tons of fun for the entire family. With waterslides that my children could not get enough of and optional activities like parasailing and stingray feedings, this day of fun in the sun was a high point of our trip.
Simply being able to spend the day without a worry in the world and with our toes in the sand was the perfect way to relax and truly soak in all that a Disney Cruise has to offer.
And since the island is exclusive to Disney cruises, there was no over-crowding or lines…simply more magic to be had, all while being immersed in our favorite Disney characters and magic.
The Cast Members
The final (but probably most important) thing that made our cruise with Disney truly magical was the cast members (which might be called staff on any other cruise). This group of individuals were absolutely amazing…from our servers to our room attendants to everyone we saw during our entire stay on the Disney Wonder. Their faces would always light up with smiles and anything we needed magically appeared. During our three nights aboard the ship, we had DeDe and Jane taking care of us at meals and I’ll honestly say, by the time we left, they felt like family.
From greeting us by name every time they saw us to offering two desserts when I couldn’t pick just one (don’t judge) to performing magic tricks at the table, these cast members are a big part of what sets a Disney Cruise apart and truly makes it an experience that is unforgettable!
I have to say, our experience aboard the Disney Wonder is one that I will never forget and also one that will be hard to match. I now understand the magic of not only visiting Disney taking the time to cruise with Disney. It’s the perfect way to be swept away to a place where worries don’t exist and magic never ends. I highly recommend that whether you’re a Disney newbie or have loved the magic for as long as you can remember, you add booking a Disney Cruise to your list of to-do items today!
