As if the entire world doesn’t already know, a few weeks ago we got a puppy (let’s go head and get all the awwwwws out of the way). He name is Ollie and of course, in true me style, he’s unique. Yes, he’s a teacup so he’s super tiny. Yes, he’s got a face that would make any dog mama melt. But what really makes Ollie unique is that he does not think he’s a dog…..or at least that’s what I’m telling myself because the only other option is that he thinks I AM one which, well, we won’t go there…. So back to my dog who doesn’t think he’s a dog. I really have to take responsibility for how he’s turning out because the truth of the matter is, I wanted a baby. My almost 40-year old body was screaming that it was now or never and after presenting all my very valid points on why we should have a third baby to my hubby……Ollie came home. Now, it’s amazed me how much having a puppy is truly like being a new mom. He’s up all night. I’m constantly having to clean up after him. He cries anytime I don’t do exactly what he wants. With all these similarities, I had only one choice….I could embrace my last “baby” and turn him into what I really wanted and so that’s what I did, down to creating a fabulous drink to serve up at his “Sip & See”. That’s right….I made a delicious Berry Filled Spritzer Mocktail, invited over my friends and introduced Ollie to the world in the way that only I could!
So, I know you’re thinking, really? A doggy Sip & See and if I’m telling the truth, it was just a chance to invite friends over and have a fabulous time. While I don’t think there is ever a needed reason to party, I thought it would be fun to do a little something different (and get under the hubby’s skin at the same time). But I digress…because Ollie my odd treatment of my final dog baby didn’t start with a Sip and See.
From the start, since everything in me knows that Ollie is my last “baby”, I decided to play it up for all it’s worth. I looked into puppy showers (the hubby said he wouldn’t claim me if I did it). I considered registering at the pet store (the hubby threatened to have me committed). While my major ideas were all shut down, Ollie and I grabbed our favorite Sparkling Ice drink and headed to the computer to do a little doggie shopping! I figured if I was going to go over the top, I should REALLY go over the top! Since I for real love Sparkling Ice and it’s many flavors that are available from Amazon, it only made sense to pair my favorite bold drink that boasts no calories with some bold choices for my puppy-baby!
I started by ordering a car set (OK, it’s a doggie car seat so it’s a little different than a baby one but still…). Then I installed that bad boy into the car so that Ollie and I can cruise along together and he never has to leave my side.
Knowing that a car seat wasn’t a bold enough move, I thought through how I transported the kids and the first thought that came to mind was a carrier. If I was a baby wearing mama, I’m now a dog wearing one! After a few simple clicks, I had the perfect front carrier to earn me plenty of crazy looks….but you know what, I don’t care!
Let people look. Let them laugh. Let them ask me if I know that Ollie is a dog and not a baby. I’m past the point of caring what people say and if this is really and truly my last baby, then by golly he’s going to get all the benefits that last babies get!
And the hubs? Well, perhaps he’s regretting his decision to give me a dog-baby at this point cause his slightly crazy wife has not only embraced the dog mama life but has learned to celebrate it in a bold style that nobody can miss! With everyone asking about my new addition to the family and everyone knowing that I’ve been treating him just like a baby, I decided to throw a Sip and See to introduce him to the world. In fact, I decided to really go over the top and create a Doggy Mama Mocktail that that’s the perfect sparkly way to celebrate my special little puppy! For those of you less puppy crazy than me, we’ll just call it a Fruit Filled Spritzer Mocktail! And of course Ollie helped me to create it!
What You Will Need
1 Fresh Lime
A Dash of Unflavored Spritzer Water
How to Make It
This easy to make drink can be whipped up in minutes and is perfect for celebrations (like say a Doggie Sip and See). And the best part is, it’s crazy delicious! To make it I sliced my Kiwi and Strawberries and froze them (why use ice cubes when frozen fruit is so much tastier and doesn’t water down your drink?). Once my fruit was frozen, I filled my glasses with it, added 1/4 Cup of Unflavored Spritzer Water and filled the rest of my cup with Strawberry Kiwi Sparking Ice.
After adding a few colorful straws to each glass, I had a perfect mocktail (you can add a shot of vodka to make it a cocktail) that’s fun, fizzy and just a bold as I am!
After inviting my friends over to meet Ollie, I let him check out the mocktail I had made in his honor and he gave it his seal of approval!
The all that was left to do was keep the drinks coming and watch as everyone embraced that fact that while this Sip and See may not be traditional, it was definitely a reason to celebrate!
While my doggie Sip and See was anything but ordinary, it was perfect for me! It embraced the craziness that is my everyday life and reminded me that sometimes, you don’t get what you want but you get exactly what you need! Now, Ollie and I are living it up in his car seat, his carrier and even his little clothes (please don’t tell the hubs). Because I’ve discovered that while life may never be exactly what I’d imagined, it never has to be bland!
