With school back in session, I’ve been trying my best to come up with fun school lunches that my littlest will devour. You see, he’s somewhat of a picky eater. Add to that the fact that he sees lunch time as his time to socialize and I’ll admit that I really struggle to put together lunches that don’t just come back home. However, this year, I’ve been determined to make things different. Instead of packing boring lunches that are quickly discarded, I’ve began to think outside the box when it comes to creating fun and delicious school lunches that my son can’t get enough of. Now, I’ll admit that this has been challenging for me at times since I’m not the most artistic person. However, inspired by his discovery of his new favorite animal – rabbits – at nature camp this summer, I’ve found the perfect way to take a classic lunch he already loves and make it a delicious way to power his day with a simple PB & J Bunny Bento Box.
Now, before you start thinking that my amazing box is just too hard for regular mornings, let me tell you that you’re wrong! With just a few simple ingredients from Walmart and some cookie cutters, this cute PB & J Bunny Bento Box takes a few short minutes to make and is sure to be a hit around the lunch table! Are you ready to make it? Let’s get started!
What You Will Need:
4 Pieces of Bread (Your Choice of Bread)
2 Tablespoons of Jif® Creamy Peanut Butter
2 Tablespoons of Smucker’s® Strawberry Jam (Plus a Little More for Decorating)
1 Black Food Marker
2 Candy Eyes
1 Medium Round and 1 Small Football Cookie Cutter
How to Make It:
This simple PB & J Bunny Bento Box is seriously easy to make and not only does it deliver the classically yummy taste of Jif® Creamy Peanut Butter and Smucker’s® Strawberry Jam but it presents it in a way that’s irresistible to kids! To start, I spread my Jif® Creamy Peanut Butter that boasts seven grahams of hunger busting protein on one side of my bread.
Next I topped it with my perfectly sweet Smucker’s® Strawberry Jam and added my top piece of bread. Simple right?
After gently pushing my bread together to secure it, I used my round cookie cutter to cut out the head and my small football shaped cookie cutter to cut out two ears.
I quickly placed the scraps from the peanut butter and jelly sandwiches in a bag to save for my own lunch (I love a good PB & J ya’ll). Then I arranged my shapes into a bunny head with ears in my bento box.
Once I had the general shape I was looking for to make my PB & J Bunny Bento Box, it was time to add the finishing touches that really made the perfect way to power their day pop! I started by pulling out my black food marker and drawing on a mouth.
As soon as my mouth was in place, I pulled out a few matchstick carrots and dipped them in my Jif® Creamy Peanut Butter to secure them next to my mouth as whiskers.
After adding two candy eyes, a dot of Smucker’s® Strawberry Jam for the nose and filling in the ears with my jam as well, my adorable bunny was complete…and completely delicious!
From this point, I had the main star of my PB & J Bunny Bento Box in place and all that was left to do was add a few additional ingredients to the remaining spaces in my container. These items can be personalized for each child’s taste but to stick with my theme of “Bunny Food,” I added small carrots, some thin crackers, a little fruit and some fresh cheese.
like that I had a deliciously simple lunch that was sure to satisfy with its wholesome ingredients and was presented in the most adorable kid- approved way. I loved that the entire PB & J Bunny Bento Box was filled with delicious lunch options that were the perfect way to power their day while at the same time boasting the protein packed flavor of Jif® Creamy Peanut Butter and Smucker’s® Strawberry Jam!
