I’m a big fan of making learning fun. For both my boys, I find that it’s easier to teach concepts and make sure they understand ideas when there is an easy and entertaining way to reinforce their learning. While I do my best to make learning fun all the way around for them, I’ll admit that one area I’ve struggled with in the past is math. You see, I’m not a huge math person. Take all the changes that have been made to the way math is taught and even when helping with my first grader’s math, I’m often lost. That’s why I’m always looking for fabulous apps that make learning fun and since discovering ZapZap Math with my little guy last year, it’s been amazing to see how much he’s fallen in love with numbers and how much better he is grasping concepts!

Now, last year I told you all about ZapZap Kindergarten math and honestly, that was our first introduction to ZapZap Math. From the minute I saw how engaged my little guy was, I was sold! Where I often struggled to get him to do his homework, I found that with ZapZap Math he was eager to learn. So, when I had a chance to check out the 1st-6th grade edition of this awesome app, I was only too willing to give it a go! Needless to say, ZapZap Math doesn’t disappoint and with a range of new features, it’s easier than ever to help kids fall in love with math!

## What is ZapZap Math

To put it in simple terms…ZapZap Math is a totally awesome way to learn math! More specifically though it’s a gamified math ecosystem that boasts over 180 math games spanning 900 difficulty levels. Since it’s launch in 2015, this fun program has been helping young learners with a universe of math games aligned to the Common Core State Standards that covers new math topics with each and every game. In addition to being loved by parents and kids, ZapZap Math has been featured in 200 countries in Apple’s “New Apps We Love” list and “Notable Education Apps” list and has ranked in the top 10 of the education categories in 58 countries, including the US and China. While we’ve loved ZapZap Math since the very first time we played it, now it’s even better with tons of enhancements and brand new features….including a web browser version (woo hoo!). So, how has ZapZap Math improved on what was already a darn good app that had my little guy loving math in no time? I’m so glad you asked!

## What is New with ZapZap Math

ZapZap Math has always had learning fun on point but now, they have made changes to make the app both more user friendly and better for both students and parents! Let’s start with the new login system that is simple enough for young players to master! After registering as a parent on ZapZap Math, it’s easy to have a username generated based on your child’s name. It’s then paired with passwords that are simple and easy to remember! In fact, the first time we signed in using my little guy’s user name and password, he was shown exactly where and what to enter, making accessing this game easy while allowing him to be independent.

Once he’s logged in to ZapZap Math, my son is able to access new features like a Muitlplayer Mode that allows him to challenge a fellow player! He can use the coins he earns to customize his avatar so that it will look super cool when he’s challenging other players online! While I like that he’s able to play with others, probably my favorite feature of ZapZap Math is Adaptive Learning with Percentile Scoring. This new feature allows ZapZap Math to increase and decrease in difficulty based on the mastery level of the player. This means that there is less frustration and more adjustment to meet the skills of each player while gently encouraging them to gain new skills!

So, what happens with those new skills that they are learning? Well, with the new improved web dashboard, I can get detailed math skill reports on my player’s progress by the day and the week. All I have to do is sign onto the ZapZapMath.com website as a parent or teacher and I can see how my child is progressing and identify areas where he may need help. There is even a new Pretest and Posttest feature that’s specially available for students and teachers to help gauge a child’s math level before and after playing! It’s easy to compare where they started and see how much they have learned!

While all of these new features are a big deal for me, perhaps most important to me is the fact that the game is more fun than ever and teaches my little guy math skills in a ways that he thinks is totally awesome! With an enhanced user interface that allows him to explore a diverse range of math challenges across different planets and new designs and graphics for a better gaming experience, he feels like he’s having fun while learning. He adores that he can play on my phone or tablet while we’re on the go and is even more excited that there is now a Web Broswer version that can be accessed from the computer!

So, now that I’ve shared how awesome ZapZap Math is, I’ve got the best news yet! ZapZap Math can now be downloaded and played for FREE! Yes, you heard me right…FREE! Your child will have access to over 20 games from Grade K to 6! It’s the perfect way to let your kiddos give ZapZap Math a try and see what they think! If they fall in love (which I think they will) you can unlock a galaxy of gamified math content that is certain to improve your child’s math skills for just $9.99 per year, per grade! Available in both English and Spanish, this game is a perfect way to get your kids excited about learning math!

This looks like a great game! I’m not a big math person either. My kids have outgrown some of the games I’ve kept on their iPads and I’m looking for more educational options that will help them in areas that I am not an expertise in. This is why I love technology!

Leah says

My daughter really likes this app. She has it on her ipad and getting her to practice her math facts is very easy now. Love this app!

I love having resources like this for my youngest. I agree that the math concepts are taught differently. If I helped my oldest with geometry or algebra, I would probably teach him the wrong way to get to the same answer.

My son loves math but I think he’s already old for this. It would be perfect for my niece and nephew though because they both love math too.

Marielle Altenor says

I know the giveaway is for US only but is the ZapZap app available in the Canadian app store? My son could really use this app for his math.

Diane S. says

How about Zap Zap math for a 5th grader? My daughter wants to learn Calculus! LOL,…my mom just bought her a book and sent it to her–she lives in Nebraska–called “Math doesn’t suck”. Um, yes, but we don’t say THAT word around our house,….but she loved the book.
