One of my goals for 2018 is to travel more. Now that the kids are getting older and can enjoy more of the experience, I want to pack up the car, hit the road and make memories that they will never forget. Just last week, we had the chance to head to Walt Disney World and spend a magical five days exploring the parks during the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration. While there was not a moment of our trip that was not magical, one of my favorite moments of the entire stay was the morning that we spent in Pandora at Walt Disney World’s Animal Kingdom. This new world that has been open since May of last year was completely magical. Whether you’ve seen the move that it’s based on or not, visiting was an experience we will never forget. In fact, dare I say that we have a new favorite location in the happiest place on earth! Read on for an amazing inside look at Disney’s newest world and to find out our top 3 reasons to visit Pandora: The World of Avatar!
Now, I’ll be honest, there are ENDLESS reasons why I want to go back and just spend all my time in this one new attraction. But here a few of the highlights you can expect to enjoy when you visit!
The Out-of-this-World Scenery
I’m a big fan of the Pandora movie and honestly, I wondered how it would be brought to life in a way that did the amazing scenery justice. If you have that same worry, let me put your mind at ease right now and tell you that it is spectacular! From the moment you turn left after entering Disney’s Animal Kingdom and enter the world of Pandora, I can promise you’ll be mesmerized by floating rocks, glowing plants and animals that have only existed in the imagination.
Everywhere you look, there are breath taking new plants lighting up and capturing your eye. I would think that I had found the most beautiful Pandora specimen only to walk two steps further and find myself stopping again.
The entire world was completely immersive and it was easy to forget where you were and truly imagine that you were on Pandora instead of simply walking through a park in the middle of Florida. For me, it was almost overwhelming initially as sensory overload kicked in but once I had a chance to spend about an hour in the attraction, I was able to step back and truly take in each amazing sight.
Truthfully, even without any of the rides or the food that I’ll talk more about shortly, I would say that Pandora: The World of Avatar is worth visiting just for the scenery alone! Just make sure you’ve got plenty of time to take in all the small details as they are what makes this world truly magical!
Once we had a chance to take in all the amazing details that go into every inch of Pandora: The World of Avatar, it was on to the two spectacular rides!
Na’Vi River Journey If you’re looking for a slower paced start filled with beautiful, glowing scenery, I highly recommend the Na’Vi River Journey. As we floated through the world of Pandora, amazing graphics and beautiful scenery contributed to an immersive experience that had both the kids and the adults staring in wonder.
No matter where you looked, every detail of the Na’Va River Journey was perfection. From the mythical animals that seemed to appear before your eyes to the Na’Vi music and interactions, for a few minutes I truly forgot where I was!
The Na’Vi River Journey was truly magical and beautiful and a slower paced start to what was to come. Personally, I recommend visiting this ride first (or scheduling your Fast Pass for it first) and then heading on to the second attraction!
Avatar Flight of Passage Without a doubt, THIS is my favorite Disney attraction ever! If you’re a fan of Soarin’, you’re going to fall deeply, madly in love with Avatar Flight of Passage. As you climb through the rocks and see the inside of the lab, you’re really not sure what to expect on this ride.
After going through a training session and finding out more about how you’ll be paired so that you can ride atop your very own Banshee, you take a seat on devices that look almost like motorcycles without the wheels.
After putting on your 3D glasses and being locked into place, the screen in front of you opens to allow you to soar through the World of Avatar. I will say this ride is not for the weak of heart (or stomach) but it’s truly amazing! You dip, you climb, you soar and it really feels like you are coasting on the back of a Banshee in the most amazing way. If you only get to do one thing in Pandora: The World of Avatar, trust me when I say this needs to be it! Lines are long so try to get a Fast Pass if you can but even if you can’t, I promise the wait is well worth it!
After both the rides, chances are you’ll be pretty hungry and the great news is Pandora: The World of Avatar is my favorite place to eat in all of Disney! Satu’li Canteen is located right where you come off of Fight of Passage and if you love food that’s a little on the healthier side, you’re going to go crazy over this fast service restaurant. You’re able to choose your protein, your grains and veggies and your sauce and the end result is truly delicious! I had the fish with quinoa and kale and Charred Sweet Onion Sauce. It was so good ya’ll! I seriously would have eaten this every day if I could!
If your kiddos aren’t veggie fans, don’t worry! My teen had the cheeseburger pods and my littlest had the cheese quesadilla and everyone left happy and full! It was a definite win!
Once we were done with lunch, we ventured into the park and had to enjoy a frozen Night Blossom drink!
From the juice filled balls on top to the swirl of flavors, this was refreshment at it’s best! Truthfully, we couldn’t finish the whole thing but I would totally get it again! And don’t worry…there are “adult” versions if you’re needing a little fortification!
I returned to Pandora: The World of Avatar twice during our stay and honestly, I could have gone back more. I may have ridden Flights of Passage 4 times (don’t judge) and I may have eaten at Satu’li Canteen multiple times but in truth, it still wasn’t enough! I know that on my next visit to Disney World, Pandora: The World of Avatar will be my first stop!
If you’re planning a trip to Disney World, be sure to book your Fast Passes for the amazing Avatar inspired rides as soon as possible as they fill up fast and waits were up to four hours at times! If you’re not planning a trip to see Pandora, my only question is why not?
