Most everyone is familiar with Earth Day but did you know that April is actually Earth Month? While I’ve always made sure to teach my children about small ways that they can conserve each and every day, this year I’ve really stepped up my game and am making sure that this entire month is dedicated to teaching them how everyday choices can have a big impact on the environment. We’ve been discussing big and small ways that we can make a difference and we’re also talking about how the products we choose to buy can have an impact on the earth we leave behind. That’s why I’m so excited to announce that I’ve partnered with Tom’s of Maine to be part of the Goodness Circle. Over the course of the next few months, I’ll be sharing how their natural products are a perfect fit for every area of my family’s personal care needs and I figured there was no better time to really make this announcement than during Earth Month. So, in honor of all the amazing details that are to come, I wanted to share not only this new partnership but also to give you some quick and easy everyday ways to conserve for Earth Month!
I am a strong believer that the actions we take today will impact the world we have tomorrow. I’ve always taught my children to be conscious and aware of simple ways they can make a difference around our home, our neighborhood and our community. So often I think as moms we can fall victim to getting busy and forgetting the everyday impact that our actions make. That’s why I wanted to give you a little reminder of how simple it is to adopt a few everyday ways to conserve! All it takes is three small steps.
Teach and Practice Good Everyday Habits
If you think your kids aren’t looking at you when it comes to the actions that they are learning, you’re wrong! You are their teacher and the person that they are most likely to emulate. That’s why all year, but especially during Earth Month, it’s important to make sure your habits for conserving are front and center! Find simple ways to talk to your kids each and every day about their social responsibility to leave the planet a better place and show them through your actions that you are leading by example.
Make Small Changes in Your Home
This ties in with teaching and leading by example but I’m always shocked at how simple it is to make small changes in my home that can have an impact on the environment. I often fall victim to overthinking and trying to find changes that are big but the truth is, small changes can make a big difference!
Here are a few ideas of small changes you can make around your home:
- Turn off lights when you leave the room.
- Recycle all plastic and paper products.
- Unplug electronics when they are not in use.
- Turn off the water when you’re brushing your teeth.
- Replace old light bulbs with energy efficient LED bulbs.
- Turn the air/heat down when you’re away from home.
- Only wash clothes/dishes in full loads.
The list is endless so choose a few simple changes to make in order to start conserving today!
Support Companies that Support the Environment
While I’ve been making small changes in my home for years, this year I’ve added to the list of everyday ways to conserve that I’m teaching my kids. In addition to making changes around my home, I choose to support companies that are supporting the environment, like Tom’s of Maine. It’s an easy choice for me to make because not only is Tom’s of Maine finding ways to give back but they are doing it while producing products that I can feel great about my family using! This month specifically, Tom’s of Maine is announcing efforts to support U.S. freshwater with a $1 million donation to The Nature Conservancy. The idea of this grant is to take action and make a positive impact for future generations to help turn the tide towards protecting, preserving and restoring our nation’s waterways. You can find out more about this amazing effort here. Through projects like restoring and protecting water supplies like the Colorado River Basin to restoring rivers to their natural state though projects like the East Coast Dam Removal, I’m proud to support a company that is balancing the needs of people and nature in an effort to leave our planet a better place. Supporting a company like Tom’s of Maine that’s working to leave the world a better place for my kids has always been important but when that company also happens to have a history of more than 48 years of developing personal care products with a focus on natural, responsible and sustainable practices while giving 10% of it’s profits back to helping people and the planet, it’s a no-brainer for me. Just to add to all the good they are doing, their products are amazing and loved by my family and I can’t help but encourage all of you to find out what’s so amazing about Tom’s of Maine as well!
If I simply knew what I know about Tom’s of Maine and nothing else, I would want to support them but I can go a step further because I know that their personal care products for the whole family are amazing! As a mom, when I’m teaching my kids about everyday ways to conserve, I also want to be able to provide them with products that back up these desires in the most amazing way. Take the Tom’s of Maine children’s toothpaste for example. I’ll be the first to admit that I’ve struggled with getting my kids’ to enjoy brushing their teeth (they are kids after all!). But with the fun packaging and great taste that Tom’s of Maine’s Silly Strawberry Children’s toothpaste provides, I get the best of both worlds with a product my kids love and that I can feel great about giving them. With calcium and silica that gently cleans their teeth in a delicious fruit form that appeals to their tastebuds, Tom’s of Maine 100% Natural Children’s toothpaste helps prevent plaque buildup with regular brushing and prevents cavities. Perhaps the best thing about Tom’s of Maine’s children’s toothpaste is that I never have to ask my kids to brush twice! They simply love the taste and I simply love being able to hand them a toothpaste that I can stand behind! And just like all the Tom’s of Maine products, my purchase of this product helps people and the planet.
That’s what’s so great about all the Tom’s of Maine products. They work well. They are great quality. And simply by having them in my home, I’m helping to make a difference for people and the planet. That’s a lesson that I’m proud to teach my kids and one that I hope they will remember for many years to come as they become Tom’s of Maine consumers themselves.
Now it’s your turn! This month I’ve been trying out some Tom’s of Maine products that I’ve never tried before (the Children’s toothpaste has been a staple for years) like their Antiplaque and Whitening Peppermint Natural Toothpaste and Tom’s of Maine Natural deodorant Stick that’s Aluminum free, long lasting and comes in scents like Wild Lavender!
Any time of the year I’d encourage you to give these products a try but in honor of Earth Month, I challenge you to switch out at least one product in your home for these natural products that are environmentally friendly. Simple click on the Tom’s of Maine products below to make your purchase!
By making this one simple change, you’ll be leading by example and adding personal care options to your home that you can feel great about using! But most importantly, I think you’ll discover a brand that produces personal care products that your entire family will fall in love with!
Now tell me, in addition to trying Tom’s of Maine products what changes will you commit to making in honor of Earth Month?
