This year, summer started for us earlier than it does for most. My boys have been out of school for going on two weeks now and while we’re loving the slower pace of the days, a longer summer has me more concerned that usual about my kiddos losing some of the knowledge they gained over the year before they head back. While I’m not as concerned about my oldest, my youngest son just finished first grade which is a very important year as far as building foundations goes. He’s proud to tell everyone that he’s a rising second grader and I’m honestly thrilled that he loves school so much. Wanting to build off this love of learning and find a way to ensure that not only does he keep his math skills from first grade sharp but also that he enters second grade ahead of the curve, I turned to our of his favorite math learning app, Zapzapmath, to ensure that we’re beating summer brain drain.
Now, chances are if you’ve followed me for long you already know my thoughts on Zapzapmath. We used it for Kindergarten learning and also as a way to keep his skills sharp while he was in first grade. While he’s always loved to learn, I’ve adored watching him truly fall in love with math with help from Zapzapmath! That’s why I am so excited to share with you that Zapzapmath now has a new suite of learning apps called Zapzapmath Home that are perfect for summer learning and avoiding the dreaded summer brain drain! So, how does it work? Much like the previous versions of Zapzapmath that my so has loved so much, the Home version makes learning math an adventure while teaching sound principals in a way that kids can really relate to. With 7 easy-to-download apps in the Zapzapmath Home Suite (and more coming soon), students ages kindergarten through 6th grade can get one easy all-access pass to multiple levels of math learning.
After selecting and downloading the appropriate level from the Zapzapmath Home suite, my youngest was able to play as an alien, visit planets and enjoy over 180 games that are aligned with the Common Core and other state standards. We found that the games were very age appropriate and ranged from simple to challenging for the level he is on, ensuring that they build confidence while also encouraging him to learn new skills. By making learning math into a game that he loves, with Zapzapmath I don’t have to worry that he’s losing valuable knowledge and instead can ensure that during the hot parts of the day when we can’t be outside, he has a perfect learning tool that he feels is a reward and that I feel is beneficial for him.
In addition to the games that he’s played for two years now which make learning math skills fun, he can also now earn coins to customize his Mathling Hero on Zapzapmath and learn through entertaining animated math lessons. There is the ability to play by himself and he can even compete online in safe, multiplayer math battles. When he wants to switch things up, he can build and decorate quirky space buildings and then go right back to his daily missions that make math fun.
For us, what is perhaps the most exciting about the Zapzapmath Home suite of apps is that we are able to switch back and forth between refreshers from the first grade math app and new lessons from the second grade math app. It’s seriously the perfect way to keep his math skills sharp this summer while ensuring that he’s having fun along the way.
While our summer may be packed full of days at the beach and afternoons at the pool, I love knowing that with the Zapzapmath app that we have trusted for years now, my little guy will be even better at math at the end of summer than he was at the start. I adore that no matter where our adventures take us, Zapzapmath can go along and challenge him so that summer brain drain doesn’t even have to be a worry! Instead, I can simply focus on planning tons of summer fun and let Zapzapmath take care of keeping all the math skills he learned in first grade sharp and preparing him for a successful year in second grade!
