It’s no secret that I love to cook but I’ll be honest…with school back in session and my guys involved in everything, my cook time has been drastically reduced and I’ve found myself testing out all types of shortcuts to ensure that I can still put amazing meals on the table. I’ve tried a variety of solutions to help make mealtime easier but without a doubt, the biggest help to me has been meal planning. Since our weekends are (thankfully) a little slower than weekdays, I’ve started carving out a few hours on Saturday to prep meals for the up coming week. When I first started this practice, I noticed that meals the first few days were great but towards the end of the week, things didn’t taste so hot. So, since I’ve been curious about FoodSaver® for quite some time, I decided to incorporate it into my meal prep. Not only has this amazing product helped me to keep food fresh up to five times longer while helping prevent freezer burn (compared to ordinary storage methods) but it’s helped me make some of my favorite recipes even tastier! Since I am so in love with this must-have kitchen gadget that is saving me time and money, I decided I wanted to show you all how I use it to create my absolutely favorite recipe right now, Grilled Lemon Rosemary Swordfish.
Now, before I share my Grilled Lemon Rosemary Swordfish recipe (which you’re going to want to try ASAP), let me tell you a little more about how I meal prep. For me, planning my meals in advance is about time, convenience and savings. So, I watch the cycles of sales and buy my fish, chicken, beef and more in bulk any time I see a great deal and simply keep my outside freezer stocked up so that I always have plenty of options on hand. This plan has worked great for me as far as savings go but hasn’t always worked so well when it comes to the food I buy staying fresh. That’s why I was so excited to give the FoodSaver® FM5200 Vacuum Sealing System and FoodSaver® 11″ x 16′ Vacuum Seal Roll, 2 Pack a try!
Now, just this past week, I happened to find swordfish (which just happens to be one of my family’s favorite dinner options) on sale. Knowing that I had the perfect marinade to turn regular swordfish into Lemon Rosemary Swordfish, my only real challenge was finding a way to ensure that I could divide my purchase into smaller servings and keep them fresh and flavorful. That’s where the FoodSaver® FM5200 came in. Not only was I able to use it to ensure that my Lemon Rosemary Swordfish recipe is amazingly flavorful the first time I serve it, I was also able to seal perfectly portioned marinated batches of it to enjoy for weeks to come. So, let me show you how I did it while telling you why meal prepping will never be the same now that I’ve discovered the FoodSaver® FM5200.

- Use the FoodSaver® FM5200 Vacuum Sealing System to seal your bags and remove any air.
- Allow one packet to marinate in the fridge for 15-20 minutes and freeze the rest for later use.
- When ready to cook, preheat the grill to medium heat and then sear each side of the fish for 3-4 minutes.
- Remove the swordfish from the grill and allow it to set for 5 minutes.
- Place the swordfish on a bed of wilted spinach and garnish with a lemon slice and rosemary.
I’m going to tell you that this Lemon Rosemary marinade is one of my favorite marinades and while I personally love it on swordfish, it can be used on chicken, shrimp, pork and more! So, how do I make it? Well, let me say that it got a lot easier to infuse the flavor of this dish into each and every bite once I started using my FoodSaver® FM5200.
How to Use the FoodSaver® FM5200
This easy to use system has become my solution to flavorful, fresh food and actually saves me time by allowing me to marinate my Lemon Rosemary Swordfish in minutes instead of hours while also making batch cooking and meal prep super easy! If you’re like me and have been curious about how the FoodSaver® FM5200 works (yes, it’s the same FoodSaver® – As seen on TV but now you can get it conveniently at Walmart), let me show you quickly. To use the FoodSaver® FM5200, I simply removed it from the box and pulled out one of my vacuum-seal bags that are BPA-free and are flexible enough to hug my food and seal effectively without gaps.
The FoodSaver® System includes vacuum-seal bags and rolls, vacuum zipper bags and containers that are designed to work together as well as vacuum sealers for optimal performance. That means that no matter what I’m trying to seal or marinate, I’ve got all the tools on hand to do it quickly, easily and effectively! To start, we simply placed the vacuum-seal bags into the bottom section of the FoodSaver® FM5200.
After turning the small lever on the side to seal, we let the FoodSaver® FM5200 do it’s work and create a seal at the bottom of the bag (the red seal light will blink on and off while the seal is being made).
Once the seal was complete, we simply pulled the bag out to the length we need it for whatever we are wanting to marinate or vacuum seal.
We once again turned the seal lever (to create the seal for the next bag) and then used the sliding cutter to cut the bag we have created off once the second seal had been formed.
Just like that, our vacuum-seal bag was made (it’s so easy and so fun!) and all that was left to do was add our Grilled Lemon Rosemary Swordfish to the bag and seal in the flavor! I love that my Foodsaver® is able to make bags in half the steps with the easy to use Express Bag Maker* (*Compared to FoodSaver V4440 Models). With our bag made, I quickly and easily mixed up that marinade that I was raving about earlier by adding my lemon infused olive oil, minced garlic, salt, pepper, lemon juice and rosemary to a measuring cup.
After adding all the ingredients for my Lemon Rosemary Marinade, I was ready for the fun step!
To prepare my Grilled Lemon Rosemary Swordfish so that it can be eaten soon or saved for later, I placed my swordfish into the vacuum-seal bag that I just showed you how to create.
Then I simply stirred my marinade and poured it on top of the fish, massaging it gently into each piece.
Now, remember how I told you things were about to get fun? This part is so cool! With my fish and marinade in the bag, I placed the bag back into the FoodSaver® FM5200 and pushed both sides of the vacuum and seal bar.
With just that one easy step, the FoodSaver® FM5200 vacuum seals my bag and I’m able to ensure an air-tight seal and less bag waste* using the Easy View Vacuum Window (*Compared to FoodSaver V4440 Models).
Now, once my Grilled Lemon Rosemary Swordfish was sealed perfectly I had one to two options. I could either pop in in the fridge and use it for dinner that night since the vacuum seal allows me to marinate my fish in minutes instead of hours or I could put it in the freezer and rest assured that with the FoodSaver® FM5200 I can keep food fresh in less time with less steps* (*Compared to FoodSaver V4440 Models).
The truth of the matter is, I know that my using this handy device, my food is sealed to perfectly so that whether I cook it now or later, it will always taste just as fresh! Generally, I make one bag for cooking immediately and several to store in the freezer. Then, when dinner time comes, I simply cut open my bag that contains my perfectly marinated Lemon Rosemary Swordfish and cook it for 4-5 minutes on each side on medium heat on the grill.
After searing both sides of my Grilled Lemon Rosemary Swordfish, I removed it from the heat and allowed it to set for about five minutes. Then I served it on a bed of wilted spinach with a slice of lemon and a sprig of rosemary for a dish that is beyond amazing!
I kid you not when I tell you that this and many other amazing recipes when paired with the FoodSaver® FM5200 has made meal prepping easier than I ever thought it could be! My little FoodSaver® FM5200 gets quite a workout once a week so that I can ensure that my family eats great each and every night.
