It’s no secret that I’m crazy about my pup Ollie. Since adding him to our family a little over a year ago, he’s gone everywhere with me. In fact, in many ways he’s like a third, very loved child. There are very few things that I don’t adore about Ollie. He’s cute. He’s loving. He’s playful. He’s fun. But one thing that he is sometimes not is great smelling. Like most dogs, Ollie has a certain odor about him and while most of the time it’s just a dog smell, after he goes exploring outside he often comes back smelling less than great. For some time now I’ve been looking for a way to combat this doggie odor so that I can truly say there is nothing that I dislike about Ollie and I think I’ve finally found it! Read on for my tips on how to keep your home from smelling like your pet.
Now, I know you’re thinking….you said your dog can get a little smelly – what does that have to do with your home? But as any dog mom knows, the way your dog smells is generally a pretty good indicator of how your home smells. While most of us pet owners go nose blind to some of the more pet-firic odors, when we have guests in our home, let’s just say that they don’t suffer from the same lack of smelling abilities. That’s why it’s so important for me to have some quick and easy tips that help me rid my pup (and my home) of doggy odors.
Bathe Your Pup Regularly
Now before you get all worried, I’m not talking every other day but you do need to keep your pup clean in order to keep him or her smelling great. Ollie is not crazy about baths (can you blame him?) but we’ve established a routine of bathing him every other Sunday. That way, it’s already in our plans and it keeps him in the routine of getting regular baths. But more importantly, it’s prevents him from getting smelly and matted up and then rubbing those doggy smells all over my house.
Use OdorKlenz Pet Odor Removal Products
While I wish that I could say that a bath alone was enough to keep Ollie from bringing some of the more pesky dog smells into my home, it’s simply not….unless I use OdorKlenz Pet Shampoo.
This pet shampoo that has become my go to for Ollie is gentle enough to use on pets with sensitive skin or allergies but strong enough to get rid of even the worst dog smells. All I have to do is squeeze it into my hand and then gently massage it into Ollie fur to eliminate any of the many scents that he tends to bring in our home. In fact, it’s even strong enough to take care of skunk spray (although thank heavens I haven’t had to test it out on that…yet!).
Perhaps the best thing about OdorKlenz Pet Shampoo though is that it doesn’t leave Ollie with that wet dog smell directly after bath time. When I use it on him, he dries quickly and smells fresh, which is a huge relief since he’s pretty much always in one of my family member’s arms.
While Ollie will likely never love being washed, he doesn’t fight me too hard on it and I love knowing that simply by using OdorKlenz Pet Shampoo each time I wash him, he stays smelling great AND looking great and doesn’t leave doggie odors everywhere he goes.
Clean Your Home Regularly
I will say that simply switching out Ollie’s shampoo for OdorKlenz Pet Shampoo has made a huge difference in the way my house smells because, well, he doesn’t leave behind dog smell everywhere he lays. However, I know that in order to keep my home from smelling like my pet I do need to vacuum and sweep up dog fur on a regular basis. I mean, it only makes sense that as Ollie explores the house, he leaves fur behind.
In addition to the simple act of sweeping and vacuuming, I also make sure that when he does have accidents in the house (it happens!) I have products like OdorKlenz Urine Eliminator on hand so that I can quickly and effectively get rid of the smells that tend to linger and leave my house smelling less than fresh. Instead, with OdorKlenz on hand I can rest assured that no matter where Ollie likes to be in the house, every room always smells fresh enough for me to feel good about my family and guests being in it as well.

Then tell me, why is it important for you to keep your pet and your home smelling fresh?
There is nothing worse than to walk in the front door and your home smells like dog. Bathing is always important and using all you tips and ideas.
Ollie is adorable. I need to get some of this shampoo if it keeps dogs from smelling like skunks. The dogs on our farm seem to regularly find a skunk to chase. It never ends well.
Even though our boxer has been gone for 3 years, I still find his hair in some places when I am cleaning. But keeping him bathed helped with the smell. Vacuuming a lot really helped also.
I love that shampoo for the dogs and the urine cleaner is something we need around here. I will look for this when i shop at the pet store.
I swear I spend half of my life just battling pet odors. I really do not want our home to smell like our pets. So far I am able to keep up with it pretty good, but it is a lot of work everyday.
This sounds like a wonderful product. I have to share this information with my friends who own pets.

Eek, yes, I have two cats, and I do not want my house smelling like them. Granted, I can’t bathe them or they’d claw me up.

Your fur baby is the cutest. I bet he gives you guy joy everyday. This reminds me to give my dogs a bath before the weather gets cold.
Oh my goodness, that is the cutest dog ever! I have two dogs and I never want my home to smell like I have two dogs though. It is a struggle and finding a good shampoo is a must! Thanks for letting me know about this one.
We don’t have a pet yet, but we hope to get one in the next few months. I’ll have to bookmark this because I’m sure I’ll need it!

Oooh I am going to have to get this. Our dog tends to get a little funky and then everything else follows suit.
Ollie is an adorable baby. I’m sure he doesn’t have any accidents for mom to clean up! Nothing cuter than a wet pup wrapped up in a towel.
Ollie is a very cute little dog. The only thing I would worry about bathing him that often is his skin drying out. I have a big lab that gets a bath about every three months. She is inside most of the time and I do clean my house a lot. This sounds like a good product. I will have to check it out.
THOSE EARS! Oh my gosh, they are the most adorable thing ever! My dog tends to “help out” in the home smell department, too, so I’m right there with you! We will have to look into OdorKlenz
