Now, it’s only fair that I’m honest and tell you that I started out this recipe with the intention of making egg rolls. However, the filling for these egg rolls that I’m about to teach you how to make is so delicious that I decided to turn it into a bowl as well! Trust me when I say that whether you roll it or bowl it, this dish is uh-mazing! So let’s get started!
- 1 Package of Passage to Asia Thai Basil & Sweet Chili stir-fry sauce.
- 4 Cups of Shredded Cabbage
- 1 Pound of Cooked Baby Shrimp
- ½ Cup of Water Chestnuts
- 1 Cup of Bamboo Shoots
- 1 Cup of Bean Sprouts
- 1 Package of Egg Roll Wrappers
- 1 Teaspoon of Flour
- 1 Tablespoon of Water
- 1 Cup of Vegetable Oil
- ½ Cup Diced Green Onions ( plus more for Garnish)
- Add the baby shrimp and bean sprouts to a saute pan and cook until warm. Drain and place in a bowl.
- Add the cabbage, water chestnuts and bean sprouts to your pan and cook until wilted.
- Pour back in the shrimp and bean sprouts mixture.
- Squeeze one package of Passage to Asia Thai Basil & Sweet Chili stir-fry sauce into the pan.
- Mix well, reduce the heat and allow to simmer for 3-4 minutes.
- Dish into a bowl and top with diced green onions for the bowl option.
- For egg rolls, lay out the egg roll wrappers and add two teaspoons of the mixture to each one.
- Roll the bottom and sides around the filing and use the flour/water mixture as paste to secure the end.
- Fry in the heated vegetable oil for about 3 minutes on each side.
- Remove from the oil, cool and serve with diced green onions for garnish.
Like I mentioned before, I started this recipe with the idea of egg rolls in mind but of course to get to the egg rolls I had to create the filling. To do that I started by adding my baby shrimp and bamboos shoots to a saute pan and cooked them until they were warm all the way through.
Once my shrimp were done, I drained the mixture and poured it into a bowl that I sat aside. Next, I added my cabbage, water chestnuts, bamboo shoots and green onions to my saute pan and cooked the mixture until the cabbage had wilted.
As soon as my cabbage was wilted (about 5 minutes of cooking time), I poured my shrimp and bamboo shoots mixture back in and then added my package of Passage to Asia Thai Basil & Sweet Chili Stir-Fry Sauce to the pan.

It’s truly the best way I’ve found to make Asian recipe cooking easy!
Once I had mixed my Passage to Asia Thai Basil & Sweet Chili Sauce into my cabbage and shrimp mixture, I placed it back on the stove on low heat and allowed it to simmer for 3-4 minutes, ensuring that I had the authentic Asian flavor cooked into every bite. Now, here is where things a little tricky….or should I say, tasty? Since any good chef knows that you always taste your food before serving it, I decided to taste my egg roll filling and it was uh-mazing! I mean we’re talking so good that I wanted to just keep eating out of my saute pan so I decided that for variety, I would create an Egg Roll Bowl by adding the mixture to a bowl and topping it with diced green onions.
This flavorful Asian meal is perfect for when you’re short on time or looking for a simple option that you can have on the table quickly! In addition to that, it brings just the right amount of heat and flavor to make it a true experience to enjoy it.
Now, you all know me and I could have totally stopped with my Thai Basil & Sweet Chili Egg Roll Bowl but I had promised my boys egg rolls and it literally only takes a few minutes more to make them so after a few more quick bites, I moved on in the process of creating my egg rolls. To make them I laid out my egg roll wrappers and added two teaspoons of my delicious Thai Basil & Sweet Chili filling to each one. Then I simple folded up the ends and sides and rolled them up. To keep all the delicious filling inside, I mixed together my flour and water to form a paste that I used on the end point to seal each egg roll.
Once they were rolled, I simply added my oil to the saute pan, got it good and hot and then dropped in egg rolls in, cooking them for about three minutes on each side until they were crispy and perfectly brown. Once each egg roll was done, I removed it from the oil and placed it on a paper towel to cool. Once cool, I added my Thai Basil & Sweet Chili Egg Rolls to a serving dish and sprinkled some of my green onions over the top.
This second way to serve up this authentic Asian dish was just as delicious as the first and delivered a crunchier yet equally amazing dinner-time option.
But, what I found truly amazing was that I could serve my Thai Basil & Sweet Chili Egg Rolls and Bowls together for an Asian dinner that’s beyond amazing!
