Now that we’re cruising into the new year, my focus has moved from holiday dishes on to how to feed my hungry fans during the big game. With what is without a doubt the biggest game of any football fan’s year coming up in just a little over a month, now is the time for practice runs and planning to make sure that I get all my game day dishes right. As a football fan who was born to a football fan who was born to a football fan (you get the picture right?) I know that hot wings are an essential when it comes to game day snacking. However, I’ll be honest and say that some of my biggest cooking fails have come in the hot wings department. There were the soggy wings. And the greasy wings. And of course I can’t forget to mention the under cooed wings. But don’t worry football fans because I’ve got the secrets and inside info that you need to create the perfect, drool-worthy, (M)ost (V)aluable (D)ish of your game day celebrations. Read on to find out the fool proof tricks to creating the perfect game day wing platter!
Now, I’ll fully admit that my house is full of fans that are wing snobs. They want meaty wings packed full of bold flavors and while they’ve never met a wing that they would say no to, they really like things H-O-T! This year, as I researched recipes and planned dishes, I kept stressing over my wing platter. As the centerpiece of any good big game celebration, the wings matter! They need to be meaty and juicy and have just the right amount of spice to make your eyes water. Knowing that I’ve epically (and I do mean epically) failed when it comes to making awesome wings in the past, I decided to mix up my game plan this year. Instead of a hail mary to the end zone, I came up with a sure fire play that ensures my big game celebration is delicious. And lucky for all of you, I’ve taken the work out of serving up the perfect wings and put together a game plan that anyone can score big with at their game day celebration!
As a sports fan, I know that what happens on the field is the result of planning and practice. Naturally, what happens in my kitchen is the same. So, in order to ensure I have the best game day wing platter around, I needed to research the competition and stock up on supplies that guaranteed success. For years now I’ve used Frank’s RedHot sauces which just happens to be the original buffalo sauce on my own creations. I’ve known that while my wing cooking process left something to be desired, Frank’s doesn’t! So, I initially started my big game preparation by heading to Walmart to stock up on Frank’s RedHot. But while I was there, I just happened to get the ultimate game day tip for success when I stumbled across NEW Frank’s RedHot wings in the freezer section.
As the football angles sang and my kids cheered knowing that they wouldn’t have to eat one of my less-than-perfect wing creations, I loaded my cart with Frank’s RedHot Buffalo Wings, Frank’s RedHot Original Wings and Franks’ RedHot Kickin BBQ Wings.
I figured that if Frank’s RedHot wings were even half as good as their hot sauce, I’d be getting tons of cheers when I served them up on my game day wing platter. Plus, since I could pick up even more Frank’s RedHot sauce at the same time, I could add additional heat to my dish. After picking up some carrots, celery and the ingredients to whip up my Greek Yogurt wing dip, I was off to the the end zone with everything I needed for a big game wing platter that I knew would disappear.
Game Time Strategy
With my freezer full of Frank’s RedHot wings, it was time to do a dry run for the big game and I knew exactly what needed to happen. I didn’t want to wait till the actual big game to whip up my game day wing platter because, let’s face it, there is so much that could go wrong. I wanted to make sure that I had cooking times down. I wanted presentation to be on point. And I of course wanted to make sure that my wings were next-level amazing. So, I pulled out my Frank’s RedHot Buffalo Wings, Original Wings and Kickin’ BBQ Wings and spread them out evenly on my aluminum foil lined baking sheet (*Tip: label your different flavors by adding a toothpicks so that you don’t get the flavors confused).
After cooking my wings according to the directions on the package (can you believe these delicious wings are cooked to perfection in about 20 minutes?), I pulled them out and began assembling my game day wing platter. I started by mixing up some ranch Greek yogurt dip (my guys love ranch but you can easily use blue cheese if you prefer). After setting my dip in the middle of my platter, I arranged my Frank’s RedHot Kickin’ BBQ Wings around the dip.
Once I had my Kickin’ BBQ wings in place, I wanted to find a way to separate the other flavors so that everyone could choose the level of hotness they wanted and so that my platter looked perfect. So, I quickly cup up my carrots and celery and created a line of them down either side of my Kickin’ BBQ wings. Then I added Frank’s RedHot Buffalo wings to one side and Frank’s RedHot Original wings to the other.
With every wing flavor that any big game fan could want on one platter, I added some additional carrot and celery sticks, a bottle of Frank’s RedHot sauce for those who like to add even more heat to their wings and some football napkins and my game day wing platter was ready to be served.
Wings For the Win!
Now comes the fun part! While creating my game day wing platter was easy-peasy thanks to Frank’s RedHot wings from Walmart, serving it up made me the most valuable cook of our game day celebration. Not only were the wings perfectly seasoned, they were also meaty, juicy and not greasy which was a total win in my book. With so little effort, I had been able to accomplish creating the elusive perfect wings!
All that was left to do was put them to the test with my wing-loving football fans. They grabbed and sprinkled.
They dunked and dipped.
And the unanimous decision was that Frank’s RedHot wings are the perfect wings for the big game or any time we want wings that are crazy easy to make! That platter of wings that I whipped up for our trial run will be about three times as large for the big game but one thing about it that will be the exact same is the fact that my game day wing platter will always include Frank’s RedHot wings!
