So, for Christmas, my hubby did a thing. He got me an air fryer. In truth, he knows that I adore crunchy fried food but he also knows that I’m trying to do this whole eating right thing. So, he decided that an air fryer to reduce fat while allowing me to get that crispy, crunchy texture I love would be the perfect gift. And he was right! So, since Christmas I’ve literally been frying all the things. I’ve made almond flour air fried chicken nuggets, fried okra and more but one of the things I’ve been most excited about are my new favorite side dish; Air Fried Brussels Sprouts.
You see, there is this little local joint about 10 minutes from our house that serves fried brussels sprouts as an appetizer and it is so dang good! The crispiness of the brussels sprouts is just something that I crave. So, over the last year (since we discovered this restaurant) I’ve been trying my best to replicate the taste of those fried brussels sprouts. I’ve sliced them and quartered them and cooked them every way I know how in the oven but I just couldn’t get that same crunchy texture. Until now……
Last night I cooked the absolute perfect bath of air fried brussels sprouts and they were uh-mazing! Even if you don’t think that you like brussels sprouts I guarantee this recipe will have you hooked on this healthy side dish.
- 2 Cups of Brussels Sprouts (sliced thin)
- 1 Tablespoon of Olive Oil
- 1 Teaspoon of Salt
- 1 Tablespoon of Garlic Powder
- Salt and Pepper to taste
- Cut the brussels sprouts into thin slices and add them to a bowl.
- Next, add the olive oil, salt and garlic powder and gently stir the brussels sprouts until they are evenly coated.
- Add the brussels sprouts to the air fryer basket and air fry on 400 degrees for 20 minutes, shaking the basket every five minutes.
- Once crispy, pour the brussels sprouts onto a baking sheet and season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Serve as a delicious alternative to fries or chips.
If you already have an air fryer, you need to be making this easy side dish pronto! If you don’t have one yet, trust me when I say it’s officially become a must in my kitchen. To start my Air Fried Brussels Sprouts, I simply wash my brussels sprouts to slice them into thin slices. After adding them to a bowl, I pour in my olive oil, salt and garlic powder and toss them well until all the brussels sprouts are evenly coated.
After preheating my air fryer to 400 degrees, I add my seasoned brussels sprouts to the basket in an even layer and cook them on 400 for 20 minutes, pulling the air fryer basket out and shaking it every five minutes to ensure even cooking.
Once my Air Fried Brussels Sprouts begin to turn brown and crunchy, I remove them from the air fryer and pour them onto a parchment paper lined baking sheet. What I love about this is that I get the fried texture but there is literally no grease! I like to sprinkle a little sea salt and pepper over the top of my Air Fried Brussels Sprouts and then serve them up warm so that my family or guests can enjoy the crunchy taste that compliments any dish!
Trust me when I say that my family loves these so much that they don’t even bat an eye when I use them as a substitute for chips or fries and they are a fabulous low carb side dish that goes with literally anything!
If you’re looking for a flavorful way to lighten up dinner and deliver the crunch your family loves without all the fat and carbs, I highly recommend that you give these easy Air Fried Brussels Sprouts a try today!
