With my new, better way of eating firmly under way this year, I’m rethinking some of my favorite dishes. I’ll be the first to admit that sweets are really my weakness. I’m probably never going to give them up but when I can find ways to lighten the up? Well, that’s a total win. Recently, you know I’ve been exploring with all things air fried and with a little experimentation, I came up with the best ever crispy apple nachos that are a perfect dessert substitution for the whole family.
Now, we’ve all see apple nachos that are made with fresh apples, peanut butter and more. But I thought what if I air fry my apples in butter and seasoning and use them as a base for a really delicious creation. Sounds good right? Well, my kids agreed that it sounded awesome so we decided to give it a try and man, were the results uh-mazing! Here’s how we made these best ever crispy apple nachos.
- 4 Large Apples
- 1 Tablespoon of Melted Butter
- 1 Tablespoon of Calorie Free Sugar Substitute
- 1 Teaspoon of Cinnamon
- ½ Teaspoon of Nutmeg
- Sugar Free Whipped Cream
- Sugar Free Caramel Sauce
- Diced Pecans
- Additional Cinnamon for sprinkling
- Using a mandolin slicer, cut the apples into thin slices.
- Mix together the butter, sugar substitute, cinnamon and nutmeg and pour it over the apples, tossing gently.
- Transfer the apples to your air fryer and fry on 375 degrees for 25 minutes, tossing regularly.
- Remove the apples from the air fryer when they are cooked and starting to wither.
- Place the apples on a serving dish.
- Top with sugar free whipped cream, sugar free caramel syrup, pecans and cinnamon.
You guys, you’re going to L-O-V-E these best ever apple nachos and if you use sugar substitute and sugar free cool whip and caramel syrup like I did, you won’t even feel guilty about eating them. To start my apple nachos, I washed my apples and used my mandolin slicer to cut then into thin slices.
Once my apples were sliced and added to a bowl, I mixed together my butter, calorie free sugar substitute, cinnamon and nutmeg and poured it over the top, tossing my apples in the mixture so that they were completely covered.
Once my apples were covered with my delicious butter mixture, I added them to the basket of my air fryer and cooked them for 25 minutes on 375 degrees. Every 5 minutes or so I would toss them or use tongs to shift them around so that I ensued they all cooked equally.
Once my apples had turned a golden brown and begin to shrivel up, I knew they were done so I removed them from the air fryer and added them to a serving dish.
Now, I’ll be honest, both my boys kept grabbing the apples just like this because they are so stinkin’ delicious! But I slapped their hands away and took things one step further by layering on some sugar free whipped cream, chopped pecans and a little more cinnamon.
And the end result? Well, if these don’t make you drool there something wrong with your tastebuds!
