In my house, we eat a lot of chicken. It’s just such a versatile meat that can be used in, well, pretty much anything! From BBQ Chicken Sliders to casseroles to simple sandwiches and even chicken spaghetti, there are SO many ways to eat chicken. However, I do run into one problem with chicken. Like many of you (I’m sure) I buy it in bulk and freeze it so that I always have chicken on hand. While this is great I never remember to pull the chicken out of the freezer the morning that I want to cook it. I truthfully think I just have a mental block that prevents me from doing it! For years this mental block made me think I had to put the chicken back in the freezer and go to the store for some non-frozen chicken breasts, I’ve recently learned that when I have frozen chicken, all I really need is an hour and my simple guide on how to make the best shredded chicken from frozen breasts.
This simple kitchen hack is literally the easiest way to get the best shredded chicken quick! And since you can start with frozen breasts, there will never, ever be a reason to have to run out to the store when you forget to pull out your chicken to thaw again. So let’s make it!
- 4 frozen chicken breasts
- 4 cups of water
- 2 tablespoons of olive oil
- ½ teaspoon of salt
- ½ teaspoon of pepper
- 1 teaspoon of Italian seasoning
- Place your frozen chicken breasts in a large pan.
- Drizzle the olive oil, salt, pepper and Italian seasoning over the top and run into the breasts.
- Pour the water around the chicken breasts.
- Cover and bring the water to a boil.
- Reduce the heat and simmer for 45 minutes, until the chicken is cooked all the way through.
- Remove the chicken from the pan and shred it immediately.
This best shredded chicken is so easy to make and it’s really delicious and juicy which is such a bonus! To start, I placed my frozen chicken breasts into a pan and drizzled my olive oil, salt, pepper and Italian seasonings over the top. I gently rubbed the oil and seasonings into the chicken breasts and then I poured water around the chicken, not covering it completely (you don’t want all those seasonings to float away do you?).
Once I had my water poured in, I put the top on my pan and brought the water to a boil. Then I simply reduced the heat to low and allowed the water to simmer and cook my chicken breasts for 45 minutes (cooking time may vary depending on the thickness of the chicken breasts). While I was simmering my chicken breasts, I pulled out my Bear Paws Shredded Claws (these are a MUST when it comes to the best shredded chicken).
As soon as my chicken was cooked through completely but still moist and juicy on the inside, I used the Bear Paws to shred the chicken breasts to make my best shredded chicken.
Once all of my chicken breasts were shredded, I had a pan full of perfectly cooked chicken that was ready to be used in a variety of ways.
I personally used this batch of my best shredded chicken to make a simple casserole and the tenderness and flavor of the chicken made it perfect. However, you don’t have to use this best shredded chicken immediately! You can simple add two teaspoons of chicken stock (to keep the chicken moist) and store it in an air tight container in the refrigerator. That way whenever you need the best shredded chicken, it’s ready to be enjoyed!
I encourage you to try this easy way to make the best shredded chicken and remember that you’ll never again have to worry when you forgot to thaw out the chicken breasts for dinner.
Now tell me, what’s your favorite dish that includes chicken?
