Did you know that May is National Pet Month? Well, if you didn’t, you do now, and if you know anything about me and my love for my pup Ollie, you know I’m celebrating this. Well, any reason to celebrate him in fun and fabulous ways. For anyone who isn’t aware, Ollie is an (almost) 5 pound little bundle of love that came into our family about two years ago. As our little four-legged friend, he thinks his only purpose in life is to love on us and well, we’re totally good with that because there’s nothing quite as sweet as Ollie kisses (when he touches his nose to our nose). Because Ollie is such a special part of our family and because May is National Pet Month, I thought it would be the perfect time to share a little about how we celebrate and show you our easy dog treat canister tutorial. It’s the perfect way to make your pooch feel like the honored member of the family that they are during this very special month.
Before we get to my Dog Treat Canister tutorial, which can be made in so many fun ways and personalized for your four-legged friend, let’s talk about why I need one. My pup gets treated for a variety of daily tasks; using the bathroom outside, sitting, coming when he’s called, letting my 8 year old rub him gently….you get the picture. For us, treats are a simple way to show love and make him feel special as well as rewarding him for everyday tasks and as a training tool. Because he does so love to be rewarded, I make sure I keep plenty of his favorite treats on hand and that’s why I shop at Sam’s Club for Nudges® Chicken Jerky Dog Treats and Nudges® Steak Grillers Dog Treats. Available in bigger sizes that means I have to stock up less often, these favorite treats of my Ollie have a real meaty texture, appearance and smell and are made with real ingredients. Since I know you’re already wanting to stock up, go ahead and scroll over the picture below to click through to the Sam’s Club website and purchase your Nudges dog treats today!

Now that you’re stocked on up Nudges Dog Treats that I know your dog will love for National Pet Month and the rest of the year as well, let’s look at my dog treat canister tutorial to store them in, OK? This easy dog treat canister tutorial can be personalized in so many ways. To start, I pulled out a medium sized glass container with a seal. Depending on the size of your dog, you can use as big (or as little) of a container as you want.
Once I had pulled out my container and cleaned it well, I grabbed some vinyl, headed to my vinyl cutter and got ready to make this dog treat canister tutorial my own. After finding a cutout of a Yorkshire Terrier (which was the closest breed I could find to my little Maltese/Yorkshire mix), I used my vinyl cutter to cut out both the shape of the dog and the words “Good Dog” because that’s what we say to Ollie when he’s getting ready to be rewarded with a treat. Yes, you might get tired of hearing “You’re such a good dog and we love you so much” if you spend any time in my home.
Once I had the cutouts complete, I transferred them to vinyl transfer paper, setting up the design the exact way I wanted it to look on my dog treat canister.
Then I had my son hold the glass canister secure as I placed the vinyl transfer paper on the front of it and gently pushed my vinyl cutouts down to secure them to the glass.
Once my design had stuck, I very gently pulled off the transfer paper and revealed the perfectly designed dog treat canister that I had created with very little effort.
While my dog treat canister tutorial was such a simple task, I knew that it was the perfect way to store Ollie’s beloved Nudges Dog Treats that make him feel adored in the most delicious way. With my dog treat canister completed, all that was left to do was add my Nudges Chicken Jerky Dog Treats to the inside. These treats that are made with USA chicken as the #1 ingredient, are all natural, have no corn, wheat or soy and are made in the USA (which I love!). Even better they don’t contain any artificial flavors or fillers and are made of just the good stuff to deliver tender treats that are made with quality and care.
While I’ll definitely admit that Ollie gives preference to the Nudges Chicken Jerky Dog Treats, he also adores the Nudges Steak Grillers Dog Treats that are made with real steak and boast USA beef as the #1 ingredient. I keep these tender, all-natural treats that are inspired by my family’s own favorite grilled food (steak) on hand so that I have a variety and can treat Ollie in so many different ways.
Once I had filled my dog treat canister with Nudges Dog Treats, I simply sat the jar out and then anytime I want to treat Ollie, reward Ollie or simply show Ollie love, I simply tear off a piece of a treat (he’s little remember) and offer it to him. Needless to say I never have to offer Nudges Dog Treats twice because Ollie can’t wait to get them into his little tummy and reward me with some extra love.
Over the month of May, I’ll be alternating his Nudges Dog Treats and making sure that his dog treat canister is filled with his favorite Nudges Chicken Jerky Dog Treats and Nudges Steak Grillers Dog Treats from Sam’s Club. While it’s just one of the ways that I show him love each and every day (and especially during National Pet Month), I love knowing that I’m giving him treats that are made with simple, natural ingredients that start with real USA sourced chicken or beef as the #1 ingredient and are inspired by the foods that my own family loves.
And then, once I’ve rewarded him, trained him or simply told him I love you in the most delicious ways, I’ll continue to find ways everyday to show him that he’s the most loved pup around and always will be. Some simple ways to celebrate National Pet Month with your four-legged friend are:
- Take them for a walk
- Play with a favorite toy
- Cuddle with them
- Give them a favorite treat (Nudges Dog Treats hint, hint!)
- Find a local dog park to visit
- Spend time with them outdoors
- Take them for a car ride

That is such a cleaver idea. I just always have my dog treats in the pantry and they are so hard to get to when my pet needs her treat. I would love to make this and have it sit on the counter so I could get to them easily.

That treat jar is the cutest! I’m going to have to cut me some labels now and make something similar for my boxers. And add in Nudges of course. My pups would gobble them right up!
