Now that school is out in my home and we’re officially on summer break, I’m doing a lot more cooking. Where I kept school lunches simple all year, I’m loving that the kids are home for lunch time, snack time and even dinner time (which doesn’t always happen during the school year because of sports). To show them how much I adore having them around, I’ve been making some of their favorite snacks and dishes and I’d be remiss if I didn’t tell you that fries are high on the list of both my boys’ most loved foods. However, when it’s hot in the summer I like to pair our fries with a cool dipping sauce and if I can find a way to incorporate a little fruit in said dipping sauce? Well, that’s just a summer-time mom win. So, without further ado, I want to share with you not only why you haven’t discovered the perfect dippable fries until you’ve tried new McCain®’s Dip’n Wedges but also my recipe for perfectly cool and creamy, summer-ready Zesty Avocado Lime Ranch Fry Sauce.
If you know anything about my family, you know that we don’t think there’s ever a bad time for fries. I use them as a lunch and dinnertime side and even a fun snack throughout the summer. While McCain has a variety of fry options like their Craft Beer Batter Fries, Seasoned Curly Fries, Crinkle Cut Fries, Seasoned Waffles Fries and Mashed Potato Smiles (you can find them all at Walmart), our summer obsession has become the McCain Dip’n Wedges. Just like the other McCain fry varieties, the Dip’n Wedges are made with real potatoes and have no artificial colors and flavors, but what really makes them awesome is their shape! With a unique design that’s perfect for dipping and topping, these frozen fries from Walmart are seriously perfect when paired with my cool Zesty Avocado Lime Ranch Fry Sauce. Let’s make it so I can show you just how great of a combination this is for summer dipping, dunking and snacking!
- 1 bag of McCain Dip'n Wedges
- 1 large avocado
- 1 small jalapeño
- 2 tablespoons of minced cilantro
- ½ cup of mayonnaise
- ½ cup of sour cream
- 2 tablespoons of whole milk
- 2 tablespoons of ranch seasoning
- ¼ cup of lime juice
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Preheat the oven and cook the McCain Dip'n Wedges according to the directions on the bag.
- While the Dip'n Wedges are cooking, add the avocado, mayonnaise, sour cream, milk, ranch seasoning and lime juice to a blender.
- Combine until the mixture is smooth and creamy.
- Add in the diced jalapenos and cilantro.
- Pulse the ingredients together until the jalapeño and cilantro are incorporated but chunky.
- Refrigerate for at least one hour.
- Serve with the McCain Dip'n Wedges.

Everybody loves fries in the summer but when it’s really hot outside, you just need a delicious cool pairing for dipping and that’s where my Zesty Avocado Lime Ranch Fry Sauce comes in. This perfect summer dipping sauce is so easy to make and do trust me when I say once you taste it, you’ll know that no other fry sauce will do with McCain Dip’n Wedges. To start, I needed to get my fries cooking so I pulled out the bag I had purchased from Walmart, preheated my oven and cooked my fries according to the directions on the bag.
Once I had my fries in the oven, I moved on to my Zesty Avocado Lime Ranch Fry Sauce. This dipping sauce is simple and cool and creamy with just a little bit of a kick. If you ask my family, they’ll tell you it tastes like summer and I have to say, I agree! To make it, I sliced my avocado in half, removed the seed and added the fruit to my blender. Once my avocado was in the blender, I added my mayonnaise, sour cream, milk, ranch seasoning and lime juice and pulsed them all together until the mixture was smooth and creamy.
While I was blending these ingredients, I diced up my cilantro and cut up my jalapeño into small pieces. Once I had a smooth consistency to my Zesty Avocado Lime Ranch Fry Sauce, I added in both of the remaining ingredients to the blender and combined just well enough to incorporate the spices through my fry sauce.
I immediately transferred my Zesty Avocado Lime Ranch Fry Sauce to a bowl and placed it in the refrigerator for at least an hour (the colder this fry sauce is, the better it pairs with hot McCain Dip’n Wedges!).
Once my fry sauce was perfectly cool and my McCain Dip’n Wedges were perfectly hot, I grabbed a platter, placed my Zesty Avocado Lime Ranch Fry Sauce in the middle and spread my McCain Dip’n Wedges around it.
Then all that was left to do was call my boys to come enjoy a summer snack that’s beyond delicious! Not only were they thrilled to see McCain Fries as a summer time snack but they adored the fun new shape of the McCain fries that’s seriously perfect for dipping.
I watched in amusement as they picked up their McCain Dip’n Wedges, dunked them in the Zesty Avocado Lime Ranch Fry Sauce and snacked away and truthfully, it wasn’t long before I joined in on enjoying this fun summer snack that is the perfect pairing.
With every fry they dipped, it because more obvious that whether you’re dipping, dunking or topping your fries this summer, the best way to get all the flavor of fries and toppings in every bite is by using McCain Dip’n Wedges from Walmart!
