Having been at home more in the last few months, one of the things that has brought me the most joy has been feeding my family in the way that I’ve always wanted to. With no more lunches to pack or dinners to order out, my emphasis has moved to creating simple dishes that are packed with flavor while providing nutrition in new and delicious ways. I’ve paid more attention to the items that I put in my cart in the grocery store and I’ve stocked my fridge with snacks and meals that I feel good about serving. While the change has been gradual, the result has been snacks that my kids can’t get enough of, meals that are hearty yet satisfying and breakfast options that we are all excited to get out of bed for. While I’m coming up with new recipes weekly and finding substitutions that make meals even more delicious, one of my favorite ways to mix things up is with Dannon Whole Milk Plain Yogurt 32 oz from Walmart. We eat it with fruit and nuts, we mix it with peanut butter for a simple snack and perhaps our favorite Dannon Whole Milk Plain Yogurt creation to date is using it as a substitution that makes this Blueberry Yogurt Coffee Cake the most requested breakfast in our home.
Before I get to the simple recipe that makes this moist, fluffy Blueberry Yogurt Coffee Cake an absolute must try, I want to share with you a little bit about why Dannon yogurt is my family’s yogurt of choice. For as long as I can remember, I’ve reached for the Dannon Yogurt brand at Walmart. With it’s new packaging, it might look a little different than the Dannon Yogurt we’ve reached for in the past but the goodness inside is still the same.
In addition to being a great source of Vitamin D and calcium, it also is a great way to add protein to our diet and we love that Dannon Yogurt is non-GMO project certified. As if those benefits weren’t enough to make Dannon Yogurt my family’s choice, Dannon is now a certified B corp meaning that the brand has joined the global movement of people using business as a force for good. Not only do they meet the highest standards of overall social and environmental performance, they also focus on transparency and accountability and aspire to use the power of business to solve social and environmental problems. In times like the ones we are living in, that commitment to do good makes a difference to me and motivates me to purchase from B Corp companies like Dannon. It gives me a feeling of pride in the yogurt my family consumes and for my family, the taste is still just as delicious as ever.
Knowing all the benefits of feeding my family Dannon Yogurt, I’ve been serving it up in multiple ways over the years but recently I started cooking with Dannon Whole Milk Plain Yogurt and ya’ll, it’s a game changer. This Blueberry Yogurt Coffee Cake is easy enough for even a novice cook to make and trust me when I tell you that the substitution of Dannon Whole Milk Plain Yogurt makes it the fluffiest, most moist coffee cake you’ll ever try. To start, I added my dry ingredients (flour, sugars, baking powder and salt) to a bowl and combined them well.
Once my dry ingredients were combined, I poured in my milk, added my butter (be sure to soften it first), zested in my lemon and added my eggs and vanilla extract.
Then it was time for the most important ingredient in this simple recipe…..the Dannon Whole Milk Plain Yogurt. After opening up my 32 ounce container (look for it on the bottom shelf of your Walmart yogurt aisle) of Dannon Whole Milk Plain Yogurt, I measured out 3/4 of a cup and added it to the batter of my coffee cake.
These larger containers that have an all new look are perfect for baking (or just eating) and come in Whole Milk Plain. It’s easy to pop the top off, spoon in exactly what I need and then place it back in the refrigerator for later use.
Once I had added my yogurt to the coffee cake batter, I mixed it all together, folded in my blueberries and then poured the batter into a greased 9 x 13 baking dish.
Once I had evened out my batter, I added the dry ingredients for my crumb topping to a small bowl and mixed them all together. Then I added my cold butter in small pieces and used my fingers to combine it well until I had a sand like texture. As soon as my crumb topping was ready, I added it to the top of my Blueberry Yogurt Coffee Cake.
My Blueberry Yogurt Coffee Cake then went into the oven for 55 minutes, until the top was golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the middle came out clean. As soon as my delicious breakfast creation made with Dannon Whole Milk Plain yogurt was done baking, I removed it from the oven, allowed it to cool slightly and served it up.
Let me just tell ya’ll, the crispy, sweet crumb topping breaks away to revel fluffy, moist coffee cake as you cut it and the end result is a blueberry filled breakfast that is beyond amazing.
The hubs and I pair this delicious dish with a warm cup of coffee.
The kids grab theirs with a glass of milk.
The truth is, no matter how we choose to eat this Blueberry Yogurt Coffee Cake, the end result is the same….a breakfast that’s plain delicious and has the added benefits of Dannon Whole Milk Plain Yogurt in every bite.
