Being from the South, I grew up on Salmon patties. It was just what we had when we needed quick and easy meal and I’ll tell ya, I have always loved my mama’s salmon patties. However, as part of rethinking the way that I feed my family, I’ve been trying to make more dishes from fresh ingredients and banish the cans to a certain extent. That doesn’t mean that I never turn to canned foods but I’ve really eliminated most of them in favor of fresh ingredients. Since we eat grilled salmon at least once a week in my home, I wondered if fresh salmon patties would measure up to the classic of my childhood and I’m here to tell you, these easy salmon patties made from fresh salmon will replace that canned version in an instant on your list of favorites. Let me show you how I make them!
These easy salmon patties are a quick and simple weeknight meal and all the prep work I really have to do is to have the hubs grill extra salmon when we have it on our meal plan. I then store it in the refrigerator and use it as the base for this tasty dish that is kid and adult approved.
- 8 ounces of grilled salmon
- 1 large egg
- ¼ cup of flour (regular or almond for lower carb)
- 1 teaspoon of garlic seasoning
- 1 teaspoon of sea salt
- 2 tablespoons of avocado oil
- Tarter sauce for topping
- Cup the salmon into small chunks and add it to a bowl.
- Mix in the egg, flour, garlic seasoning and salt and combine well.
- Shape the mixture into six equal sized patties.
- Add the avocado oil to a saute pan and heat over medium heat.
- Cook the salmon patties for 3-4 minutes on each side, until they are golden brown.
- Place the cooked salmon patties on a paper towel to drain any excess grease.
- Drizzle tarter sauce over the top and serve on a bed of spinach.
To start these easy salmon patties, all I have to do is pull out my grilled salmon and cut it into small chunks. I don’t go too small with these pieces because I like a really meaty feel to my salmon patties.
Next, I mix in my eggs, flour (you can use regular flour or almond flour for a lower carb option), garlic seasoning (I prefer Flavor God Garlic Lover’s) and salt and combine my ingredients well.
Once my ingredients are combined, I form six equal sized patties.
After adding my avocado oil to my saute pan and heating it over medium, I cook my easy salmon patties for 3-4 minutes on each side, just long enough to get them cooked throughout and form a golden crust on the outside.
Once my easy salmon patties are cooked to perfect, I drain any excess grease by placing them on a paper towel. Then I arrange them on a bed of spinach and drizzle tarter sauce over the top and add additional tarter sauce to the side for dipping.
These meaty, delicious, fresh salmon patties make a perfect easy weeknight meal and since they boast so much fresh salmon, there is tons of flavor in each and every bite.
If salmon is on this week’s meal plan for your family or even if it isn’t, add these easy salmon patties into your rotation for a weeknight meal that only takes minutes to make and that the whole family will adore. Enjoy!
