Southern Fried Catfish with Homemade Tarter Sauce

- For the Fried Catfish
- 5 boneless catfish fillets
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon of whole milk
- ⅓ cup of cornmeal
- ⅓ cup of flour
- 1 teaspoon of paprika
- ½ teaspoon of ground black pepper
- ½ teaspoon of salt
- ½ teaspoon of garlic powder
- ¼ teaspoon of cayenne pepper
- 1 cup of vegetable oil
- For the Tartar Sauce
- ½ cup of mayonnaise
- 1 tablespoon of spicy brown mustard
- 1 teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon of lemon juice
- ⅛ cup of diced dill pickles
- ¼ teaspoon of dill pickle juice
- Mix together all of the dry ingredients on a plate and set them aside.
- Whisk together the egg and milk on a separate plate.
- Add the oil to a skillet and heat over medium-high heat until bubbly.
- Once piece at a time, dip the catfish fillets into the egg mixture and then into the dry ingredients, making sure the fish is covered completely.
- Once all the fish pieces are battered, add them to the hot oil and cook on each side for approximately 3 minutes per side.
- Once cooked, remove the fish from the oil and drain them on paper towels.
- While the fish are draining, add the tartar sauce ingredients to a bowl and mix them together well. Chill slightly for best results.
- Serve the Southern Fried Catfish with a side of homemade tartar sauce.
