Pretty much everyone knows that in just a few days the time will change. The Spring days will get longer and hopefully warmer. As we approach the time change, I always like to take a look at the resolutions I made back in the cold months of winter and adjust them to help me get back on track for the coming warm months. While I’ll admit that I’ve done pretty great at sticking with my resolutions to live a healthy lifestyle (yeah, me), I’m making some additional changes that not only support this healthy lifestyle but help me Spring forward towards my goal of feeling better and living better!
So, I guess you’re asking what my goals were and in all honestly, they were actually pretty simple. For the first time ever I didn’t make goals to lose a certain amount of weight or fit into a certain pair of pants. Instead I made goals to take care of myself and make my health a priority. As a busy mom I KNOW that I often neglect me. While I don’t really think it’s intentional, I put everyone else first. I make sure they have a balanced lifestyle while I end up sitting on the sidelines munching on leftover snacks and a soda. But this year is different. Before I get to the the new Spring resolution I’m making in my healthy living transformation, let me tell you what goals I’ve been accomplishing for me.
Up The Exercise
The first change I made in the new year was to up my exercise. Now, for me, this meant finding ways that I enjoy exercising. It meant accepting that walking on a treadmill is literally never going to get me anywhere and instead finding alternative ways to work out. Over the past few months, I’ve slowly committed to walking at least 10,000 steps a day. I’ve found hiking trails and invited friends to walk with me.
And I’ve invested in a tracking device so that I’m actually accountable instead of just thinking that surely I’ve met my goal.
With this one change, I’ve in fact dropped a few pounds even though that wasn’t really my goal. But more than that, I’ve diminished back pain, increased my energy and improved my overall feeling of wellness.
Replace Sodas with Water
This has been a hard one for me and I’ll tell you, I haven’t given up all caffeine! But I have cut out the majority of my sodas and replaced them with water. To give my water a little flavor, I’ve been adding a fourth of a cup of coconut water to my filled water bottle and I have to say, I’m loving the difference.
For me, this simple change hasn’t felt like a huge sacrifice and honestly, I’ve noticed that I’m not nearly as tired as I was when I was pumping myself full of sodas! Yeah me!
Make Me Time a Priority
While I can find ways to make time for any number of activities for the kids, for some reason finding time for myself can be more challenging. In the past, I can honestly say I haven’t made it a priority and then I’ve wondered why I feel so very drained! But this year, I’ve made me a priority. Whether it’s sitting on my porch reading a book for fifteen minutes or planting flowers in the sunshine, I’m realized that putting myself first sometimes is not only OK, it’s essential for keeping me healthy, both mentally and physically.
So, now that I’ve shared what I’ve been doing (and let me say, these little changes have made all the difference in the world), I have to share the final change that I’m making over the next 30 days as I spring forward with my healthy living goals.
Remember Vitamins Daily
With as great as I’m feeling, I’ve known for a while that I need to add vitamins back into my healthy living routine. After all, I make vitamins for the kids a priority so shouldn’t I do the same for myself?
Knowing that when combined with the changes I’ve been making, vitamins are the final step to really making my Spring bloom, I headed to Walmart to pick up Nature Made Vitamins and commit to taking them every day in addition to following the healthy steps I get from joining the 30-day Healthy Habit Builder Program!
