Thanksgiving is over which means…..holiday crafting can begin. Let me just say that I’ve been waiting for this day since, oh, about a year ago. There is seriously nothing I love more than holiday crafts. And really, you can turn pretty much any household item into a fun holiday craft for your kids with a little creativity and a few basic items. Point in case: plastic spoons. While you all may eat with them, I craft with them! In fact, I have a stash of plastic spoons in my house that are for craft uses only. So when my little guy asked if we could make something today, I pulled out my favorite spoons and got to work bring his favorite reindeer to life! Here’s how you can do it too!
What You Will Need:
Plastic Spoons (White Work Best)
Brown Paint and Paintbrush
Brown Foam Paper
Googly Eyes
Red Poms
Red Ribbon
Hot Glue Gun
How to Make It:
Start by painting your spoons brown. I found that 2 coats is needed to get good coverage. This is a great portion of the craft to get your child involved in.
Once your spoons are painted, allow them to dry completely. While they are drying, cut out your antlers from your brown foam paper. These don’t have to be perfect and they don’t have to match exactly. I found that cutting them to look like turkey feet worked well.
Next, using your hot glue attach your googly eyes and pom nose to your painted spoon.
Then glue your two antlers to the back of the spoon, spacing them out to look the way you want. Your spoon should be starting to look like a reindeer now.
Finally, cut a piece of red ribbon and tie it into a bow. Then secure it to the “neck” of your spoon using glue.
And that’s it! Your reindeer is done! Now all that’s left to do is let your little one enjoy it!
This adorable craft is perfect for cold afternoons and is a great way to get your little guy or gal excited about the holiday season!
So what are you waiting for? Grab those craft supplies and bring Rudolph the Spoon Reindeer to life! Happy crafting!
