I get asked about my hair….a lot. Some people love it. Some people hate it. Some people just don’t care. But with 2015 being the year of the pixie cut in my opinion, I’m all about mixing it up and not being afraid to go short.
However, going short it not easy. Trust me. I know because I’ve had some really good looks and some really bad looks. But over the last few years, I’ve embraced rocking the pixie cut and found ways to ensure that my hair looks sassy and fabulous each and every day. So if you’re considering going short (or if you already have and now don’t know what to do) I wanted to share with you some essential styling tips for short hair.
Find a Good Stylist: I can’t tell you how important this is! If you think every stylist is the same, think again. I have had my hair messed up (and I mean really messed up) more than once. Ask to see a stylist’s portfolio before allowing them to touch your hair and make sure you have a conversation with them before the start so that expectations of what you are looking for are clear. I really recommend taking a picture with you of what you are looking for to give the stylist an idea as well.
Pay Attention to Products: With short hair, styling is essential. Depending on the texture of your hair, you will likely need a little help in the form of products. With long hair you can just let it hand straight but you want a pixie cut to be fun and funky. Talk to your stylist about mouse, texture spray and a wax or gel. Having the right products in your hand will mean the difference between a really cute style and one that you want to put a hat over.
Be Willing to Experiment: Playing with short hair is half the fun so get ready to get crazy. There are mornings where I wake up and style my hair and it’s perfect and there are others mornings where I need to use my hands to give it a messy look or even use extra products to “dirty it up”. Don’t be afraid to step outside of the box and get creative. Add a spike here, change your part there. Pixie cuts very rarely look “neat” and are more about a messy, un-structured look.
Treat Your Hair Right: All the steps above are essential but so it treating your hair right. With short hair you can’t hide split ends or brittle hair with a ponytail. It is essential to have items that help keep your hair looking healthy if you want to rock the short look. From a good shampoo to a hair dryer that doesn’t dry your locks out, make sure you use products that will help you get the finished look you want.
For me, finding a hair dryer that didn’t zap my hair of all it’s moisture was essential. And now you have the chance to win one! I love your hair style. Also like your comment about finding a good stylist; very hard am still looking. People hear but very few seem to listen. I have very difficult hair; straight, baby fine, very thin, bald spot from surgery on right side of head. I have a conversation with a new stylist. First thing I tell her is the 2 things I hate and 2 things I like. Style is up to them, whatever they can do as long as we don’t do the 2 things I hate; they don’t even have to do the things I like. My glasses are taken away, can’t see what is happening or anything else; when I get them back, I am looking at the 2 things I hate along with a generally bad haircut. Blow drying is the only way I can make my hair look nice(sorta)
My blow dryer is over 30 years old, need a new one badly.
I love this Elchim 3800 Idea Ionic Hair Dryer! My hair dryer is making a loud noise every time I use it and I know it’s about to die! I need to win this dryer!
