Reading has always been a big deal in my life. Ever since I was little I would curl up on the couch with favorite books and escape to a world where the characters and stories could grow with my imagination. So it stands to reason that when my boys were born, I began reading to them from day one. From bedtime stories to simple books they love during the day, reading together has been a big part of their lives. And when they begin to get to the age where they can read alone? Well, then it’s even more important for me to do everything I can to ensure that they have the tools they need to make learning to read memorable.
Now my little guy is almost four and a half. He’s independent. And wants to do everything ALL. BY. MYSELF. And on top of that, he adores books. Over the past few months I’ve been sitting down with him and working on recognizing letters and sounds and we’ve gone through so many books that his room is looking like a well stocked library. In all honestly we had gotten to the point where we were running out of titles and having to drag huge bags of books with us everywhere we went to ensure that he could work on his reading at any time. And the we discovered Disney Story Central.
Now most of you will remember that we took a trip to Disney just a few short months ago. So anything that has to do with favorite Disney characters is a slam dunk in our home. And Disney Story Central is no different! With tons of books featuring all his favorite Disney characters at his fingertips, it’s his new favorite way to read! As soon as we downloaded the great app, my little guy was ready to browse his favorite books. And with character recommendations, an endless library of Disney fun and reading help along the way, he was instantly enthralled.
We started our reading adventure by purchasing tokens and adding his favorite books to his own personal library! There were books that were perfect for his beginning reading level as well as books that we could read together and with the ability to change back and forth between readers, he could have his own set of super easy books that he could read alone and I could have a separate list that we were working on together. And since each book costs only one token, I was in control of how many books he added and how often he added them.
I loved that we could easily sit down with our tablet, phone or Video on Demand and read his favorite books and he loved that he has the independence to choose the read aloud function if I’m not available and he wants to read. As he added each book to his library, his smile got bigger and I couldn’t help but smile back as I heard him sounding out words and trying to read along with his new friends. With each book his confidence soared and he was able to add to his library with stories of all his favorite characters, ensuring that the love of reading he is developing now will continue with him for the rest of his life!
And if my praise wasn’t enough reward, the Disney Story Central app had some great rewards of their own for him! With each book completed he earned stars, ranks and trophies, ensuring that he was rewarded for his effort and more than ready to keep going each time a book was completed.
As a mom, I love that Disney Story Central is helping my child love reading even more. It’s giving me a great way to read with him as well as the ability to encourage him to read on his own. And it’s helping him develop basic reading skills that I know will carry over into his love of reading throughout his life. And for him? Disney Story Central is making reading more fun than he ever imagined it could be! With the ability to browse by favorite Disney characters and even get character recommendations based on his past reading, he’s never without a new book, a new adventure and a new set of characters that he’s sure to love whether we’re at home or on the go!
If you’re ready to discover a new way to make reading fun, you’re ready for Disney Story Central! With the ability to buy a monthly subscription for $7.99 or pay as you go by book with easy to purchase tokens, it’s the easy way to get your preschooler to look at reading in a whole new light! And even better? You can participate in Disney Story Central’s ‘Mid-Summer Light Reads’ Campaign – promoting weekly Disney reading themes — for a chance to unlock free books and enter the sweepstakes! Launching on June 11, the campaign will run through August 13.

We are MAJOR Disney fanatics in our house. My kids are going to love this app!
Anything that encourages kids to read is a good thing in my book. The cost is minimal compared to the hours of enjoyment.
