Confession time: I’m now in my mid-30’s (gulp) and many things about my body (and my life) are changing. I’m needing to spend more time - time that I don’t have - to look like I once did. Between the gym for my love handles, the hair dresses for my gray’s and the makeup counter for my wrinkles, looking and feeling great can at times seem like a full time job. It boils down to wanting the hair, skin and body I had in my 20’s but being a busy mom of two overly active boys, I often find myself looking for better ways to accomplish my daily goals.
On top of the other issues that my 30’s have ushered in, I’ve discovered that my once moist and glowing skin has lost some of it’s beauty. Now while I’d like to blame this on age alone, I know that’s not the only factor. You see, living in the mountains of North Carolina, I know a little something about cold weather. Biting winds. And dry air. And let me just tell you that these three things combined with the fact that I’m not twenty anymore means that I need an easy routine that keeps my skin looking and feeling fabulous.
Thankfully, I’ve discovered that while I may not be able to turn back time, I can quickly and easily get beautiful skin in just a few easy steps. Now, I’m sure you’re wondering how I stumbled on this amazing discovery! And it’s quite simple. I know the importance of moisturizing daily…especially if I want my skin to look great. But often, I’m leaping out of the shower straight into my clothes (it’s a talent I tell ya!) so that I can get the kids out of the door and to their next activity. I don’t have the time I used to that allowed me to dry off, apply lotion, wait for it to dry and then get dressed. So when I recently saw Jergen’s Wet Skin Moisturizer at Target, I stopped to take a second look.
Right there on the container were the magic words “Get Ready in 1/2 the Time” and immediately I though oh, heck yeah! After reading the back of the package and discovering that with Jergen’s Wet Skin Moisturizer there is no need to dry off before moisturizing, I was sold! Inspired by my new purchase that is available in Coconut Oil, Monoi Oil, or Green Tea Oil, I decided to take a better look at my skin care routine and change things up a little bit. After all, just because I’m a busy mom doesn’t mean that I don’t want glowing skin each and every day! And I quickly came up with four simple steps that are helping my skin look and feel amazing without taking up my oh so precious time! Are you ready to hear them?
Always Exfoliate
I’ll be honest, I’ve never really taken the time to exfoliate! But recently a friend of mine who has gorgeous skin told me I was crazy for skipping this step! In fact, she told me it was one of the most important steps to getting rid of dry skin cells and making my skin look amazing! And then I looked straight at her and (with a very whiny voice) said “But it takes too long!”. As she rolled her eyes at me and explained that it takes no longer than washing, I began to get it. And even better, I discovered that I can make my own sugar scrub at home so that I always have it on hand.
You’re likely to laugh when I tell you how easy this Coffee Sugar Scrub is to make. In fact it only takes three ingredients and 1 minute to make! I simply mixed equal parts of Coconut Oil, Coffee Grounds and Brown Sugar and ta-da…instant body scrub.
Then I simply replaced my old shower gel with this great new product that takes minutes to use!
Maximize Your Moisture (and Your Time)
But exfoliating is only step one! Because even more important is adding moisture back to my skin once I’ve exfoliated and showered. And I’ll admit this was the area where I struggled the most. Time wise, I was just frustrated and since pretty much the only time I’m alone is when I’m actually IN the shower, I needed a better way to add moisture to my skin! Thankfully the Jergen’s Dry Skin Moisturizer was exactly what I needed!
The time saving factor of this amazing product made it the only choice for me. Because instantly it allowed me to change my routine and apply my moisturizer to wet skin! This meant no need to dry off before adding it. Instead I was able to simply shower as usual, turn off the water when I’m done and immediately apply my moisturizer (before the family even realizes my shower is over).
Then I simply pat dry with a towel, put on my clothes as usual and enjoy amazingly soft skin! I kid you not when I say that this product has changed my skin completely! Not only does it smell amazing but it doesn’t leave behind a greasy residue and instead is instantly absorbed into my skin for a soft feel that lasts 24 hours! Even better, new Jergen’s Wet Skin Moisturizer from Target locks in hydration when my skin is at it’s peak moisture moment to deliver softer skin that I though possible!
Drink Up
Now that I’m making a difference in my skin’s moisture inside the shower, I discovered I need to do the same thing outside the shower. You’ve heard me preach the benefits of drinking enough water time and time again but I’ll say it once more and leave it at that - plenty of water equals glowing skin! My personal favorite right now is Coconut Water! It adds a little flavor and helps me ensure that I actually want to reach for my water bottle throughout the day!
Don’t Disregard the Little Touches
Finally, my last step to making sure my skin always looks great may surprise you because it involved taking Jergen’s Wet Skin Moisturizer outsideof the shower and to the sink. You see, while the rest of my skin stays looking great all day, washing too many dishes leaves my hands looking like a mess! Inspired by the feeling Jergens Wet Skin Moisturizer gave me, I decided to take it to the kitchen so I could have that feeling each time I dried my hands out scrubbing dishes.
I simply cleaned out an old soap bottle and filled it up with Jergen’s Wet Skin Moisturizer.
Then I screwed on the top, sat it next to the sink and now, every time I do dishes, I use my wet skin moisturizer just like I do after the shower to ensure that my hands always look and feel as soft as the rest of my skin.
Now, I may not be mastering all of the challenges that my 30’s have brought but I’ve got the secret to glowing skin down! Instead of spending tons of time and energy, I’ve found simple ways to keep my skin looking like it did in my 20’s! After all life may be busy. I may be older. But I believe no mom should ever have to settle for less than glowing skin!

Our winters are cold and dry here in Boston, so staying moisturized is SO important for me.
I’m so dreading “winter skin” and I know I need to take care of my skin NOW to prevent it. I love Jergens - I always have - and I have noticed that my skin isn’t as fresh and dewy as it used to always be!
This looks great. I love scrubs, but I’ve never tried making my own before. I can’t wait to give this a try.
YES, this is such a great recipe for me! My skin could use an awakening during my morning showers!
I have only ever used Jergens moisturizers, none of their other products. This certainly sounds like a luxurious way to unwind after a long day on mom duty!
I recently saw a commercial for this product. I always put baby oil on right after the shower.

Exfoliating is key and it’s the sugar that releases those acids to exfoliate. The coffee scrub recipe is fantastic! It feels so good and product absorbs better into the skin.

I’ve read you can use either used or unused grounds but that used ones aren’t as high in antioxidants and you’ll want to use them up quickly so they don’t mold.
This sounds like a genius product for anyone who does a lot of hand-washing (nurses, chefs, etc) or someone who has perpetually dry skin (like myself!). I had no idea this existed but I am so glad I found this blog post.
PS The coffee scrub sounds like it would smell amazing…definitely gonna whip up a batch!
I need this for the harsh Colorado winters that are about to hit!

That coffee scrub looks like it would be amazing! Does it make your skin tingle a little bit after using it?
I will have to see if our grocer carries the wet lotion… I am always having my hands in the sink and as the weather gets colder you can tell because they get so dry and cracked. UGH!

I think making a coffee scrub is such a good idea. I think us girls over here should do that for a weekend project. 🙂
That scrub though. OMG, I bet it smells amazing and does wonder for your skin. I love Jergens to balance it all out.
That scrub is perfect for an invigorating morning shower - the scent must be amazing! I also like your kitchen solution with the Jergen’s Wet Skin Moisturizer. My hands are the worst in the winter! I think this could definitely help! #client
This is prob a silly question. But does the coffee need to be brewed and then added? Lol. I tried it and it was a little coarse even with gentle pressure. So I was just wondering. Thanks. But I did feel amazing afterwards.
I actually did not brew my grounds before adding them BUT my skin is not super sensitive. I’m thinking maybe if you add more of the oil it might help with that but you don’t want to get rid of all the caffeine as that helps tighten and tone the skin.
This is brilliant! I am so going to make this 🙂 Did I mention that you are a genius?

Can you use coffee grounds that have been used already?? That would be as great as using the used grounds for your garden!!
This stuff is amazing!! A good friend of mine gave it to me after a disastrous spray tan 3 days before my wedding last year. This scrub evened out my skin and made me smell good too! I have been looking for the recipe ever since, thanks so much for sharing!

Might work great if you get past the stink of the product. I was so disappointed I couldn’t use it!
Do you mind if I ask what you thought smelled bad? I love coffee so the coffee ground smell was great to me. I’m always looking to improve or offer additional options though so your feedback is greatly appreciated:-)
