Confession time….I’m really bad at taking care of myself. It’s not that I don’t want to stay my healthiest for my family. It’s just that I always put everyone else’s need above my own. Then when I’m out the door and on my way to yet another sporting event, play date or after school activity, I remember that chances are pretty good that I haven’t eaten, haven’t taken my vitamins and look like a hot mess in general. In fact, on more than one occasion I’ve found that the only way to take care of ME is by taking my care on the go. And while this is a solution that helps make my life easier, it often leads to a very messy purse where I can’t even find the items I so desperately need.
But I’ve decided that it’s time for that to change. It’s time to find a way for me to stay healthy on the go. And since I know that all of my healthy items need to be with me where ever I am so that I can use them whenever I remember them, I decided the only thing to do was make a simple purse organizer that would put favorite health and beauty items at my fingertips no matter where my crazy daily life takes me.
Now, to give you an idea of why this was so important to me, I need to show you what’s generally inside my purse (besides dust bunnies and toys that is). But when I went to look and see exactly what was in there, I realized I was out of so many of my essential items. So off to Walmart I went to stock up on everyday essentials that keep my life running smoothly and me feeling my best! As I perused the aisles, it quickly became clear that while I could seriously stuff my purse with everyday items, less was more.
I narrowed down my needs to four simple items: a pain killer, lip gloss, some vitamins and something to help with immune support.
Then I narrowed my choices down even more by finding items that could multitask for my busy needs. I started with Advil. Any of you who have kids know that they sometimes cause headaches (yes, I did say my kids give me headaches). And while I love my littles to pieces, I’m a much kinder mom when my I’m not hurting. Since I know that nothing’s stronger, longer lasting or better on your tough aches and pains than Advil, and nothing works on more pains than Advil (among OTC pain relievers), it was the simple choice. With headaches and the other body aches that come with chasing a preschooler and keeping up with a teen taken care of, it was on to a vitamin. My mom has been telling me for years that I need a daily vitamin…and I have plenty. But they sit in my cabinet gathering dust. But as soon as I discovered that New Centrum VitaMints are adult multivitamins with a refreshingly minty taste you can take/enjoy any time of day with or without food or water, I was sold! After all, fresh breath and vitamins all rolled into one is perfect for this busy mom!
With my first two items selected, it was on to my next essential. Most of you know I have a preschooler and while he won’t share much of anything else, he LOVES to share his germs! So I’ve been working on boosting my immune system to ensure that I don’t pick up every little thing he brings home. And while the Vitamins are a part of that, Emergen-C Immune+ Chewables offer immune support that this mama of a preschooler and middle schooler can’t get enough of!
Thinking I was through, I turned to leave the store but I just couldn’t go with out my final item, ChapStick. To say I’m a lip gloss junkie might be a little bit of an understatement and I always pick it up when I’m at the store. But with winter on it’s way and my lips extra dry, I was looking for something that instantly smooths and moisturizes my dry lips. And that’s exactly what ChapStick Total Hydration promised to do.
With my essentials in hand, I headed home to figure out how to keep them from getting lost (and forgotten) in my purse. And then it hit me….I needed a purse organizer. At first I looked online but then crafty me took over and I decided why not make my own? After all, I had picked up several swatches of fabric while I was at Walmart and since I pretty much consider myself the queen of No-Sew crafts, I knew I could whip something up quickly. I started by laying out the items I wanted in my purse along with my cloth. Then I quickly cut a piece of cardboard that was roughly the size and shape of the inside of my favorite purse.
Next, I used hot glue to secure to material around my piece of cardboard, tucking the seams in and keeping it very compact.
Once the base for my purse organizer was covered in fabric, I needed cute little pockets to store my essentials in. Now, I know many people don’t think what’s in their purse matters but for me, this organizer had to be cute AND functional. So I took complimentary colors of fabric and cut squares that were big enough to cover my essential items.
Then I used hot glue to turn the sides under and create a tea-cup shape from the fabric.
With each step I made sure my fabric was wide enough to fit half way around my essential items, ensuring a pocket that would hold them securely.
After repeating the process to create pockets for my Centrum VitaMints, Emergen-C Immune+ Chewables, Advil Tablet Vial and ChapStick Total Hydration, I was ready to start assembling my purse organizer.
To do this, I laid the fabric pouches where I wanted them. I didn’t worry that the tops were overlapping since I planned to “square them up” to create pockets. Then I simply used my hot glue to secure the bottom and the sides, creating a square pocket with room to store items inside.
After repeating this process for each of my pockets, all that was left to do was slide in my containers of health and beauty essentials.
With all of my items in place where I could easily reach them at home or on the go, I was ready to add my purse organizer to my purse.
It was as simple as gently bending the cardboard and sliding my organizer into the side of my favorite purse. I had picked up some velcro to secure it with but thanks to my careful measurements, it wasn’t needed.
In seconds, I had a well organized purse where I could quickly and easily find the healthy living items I was looking for and make sure that even if I forgot about my needs at home, I was fully stocked to take care of them on the go.
After slipping my wallet and cell phone back into my purse, I had everything I needed to keep my daily life running smoothly in one place.
And the best part is there was no need to dig around to find what I was looking for. Instead it was almost like having a checklist in my purse. I simply had to unzip it, reach inside and know that my daily items for healthy living were at my fingertips.
And when it’s time to change out my purse, all I have to do is pop out my organizer, slip it into another purse and I’m ready to be back out the door living this crazy life of a mom.
For me, taking care of myself may not always be on my mind but now, I’ve got the perfect way to make sure that when the thought does hit me, I’m prepared. I’m organized. And I’m ready to live every part of my life in the healthiest way possible! And I encourage you (yes, YOU!) to do the same! Start by picking up Pfizer healthy living essentials at Walmart! It’s the perfect place to find everything you need to live your daily life the healthiest way possible. Then create my easy purse organizer so you can stop searching and start taking care of YOU!
Now that I’ve shared how I’m taking care of myself daily with Pfizer items and my cute purse organizer, I’d love to hear how you live your life in the healthiest way possible!

My bag is like a bottomless pit, so I seriously need something like this in there. I hate when everything falls to the bottom.
That’s an awesome idea! My purse is a disaster area. I really need to do this.
I love this idea. I’ve got just enough skills to do it, and my purse needs this in the worst way possible.
This is such a creative idea- we keep all of these products on hand! I can’t got through a Winter without my ChpStick by my side!
That’s great! Haven’t thought of that!!! I think I’ll be making one soon. I need small pockets for everything. LOL!
This is such a great idea. I don’t know how many times I have had to dig around in my purse to find something.
I am so “that” mom … meaning, anytime someone needs something they come to me because they know my bag, which is similar to the bag that Hermoine carried during the Harry Potter movies, holds everything! I am a walking medicine cabinet, tissue holder, snack provider, and much, MUCH more. You name it and I have it and everyone seems to find me to get it.
The problem is, when I actually need something, I can never find it. I totally need to redo my purse and love your setup. It’s so simple and easy to see where everything is. Totally showing this to my husband, since he is a better sewer than I am, and ummm maybe this weekend (or next year) I will make this dream a reality.
Thank you for sharing! Organization looks fun!

What a fantastic organizer idea! I love how easy it is to make, too! I’m always searching through a sea of receipts, diapers, and random kid-related items in my bag. I swear I’m carrying everything in there, but I often find I don’t have what I need for myself. Thanks for sharing this! {client}
