You guys, I can’t believe it’s back to school time. Where did the summer go? I have to say that the boys and I made the most of our few months off and created some amazing memories. But now, with school looming on the horizon, we’re making sure we’re ready with all our our back to school essentials. Over the weekend we decided it was time to print out our shopping list and hit the Walmart Back to School sales to ensure that we don’t fall victim to the last minute chaos that so often consumes our last few days before school starts (you mamas know EXACTLY what I’m talking about). Even better, since I’m so ahead of things this year, I’m maximizing my time to make the first day of school all about giving back with Double Box Tops to help my school get the supplies and equipment it needs as well as a simple colored pencil bouquet!
So, what inspired me to want to jump into the new school year with such vigor? Well, I’ve clipped Box Tops for years to help my school get the items it needs like books, computers, playground equipment and more! Each and every time I head to Walmart, I’m on the look out for items that carry the Box Tops logo since I know that their purchase, while seeming small, can make a big difference for my boys’ school. So this year, as I walked up and down the aisles, I was thrilled to notice a way to earn double Box Tops on products that were already on my back to school shopping list.
With everyday essentials like select Kleenex Everyday Facial Tissues, Scott Extra Soft Double Rolls and Viva Vantage Big Rolls, I could ensure I had the paper products my house full of boys need while earning double Box Tops so that I could give back even more to the school that gives so much to my kiddos. After filling my cart full of items my family loves and uses regularly as well as all the school supplies on our list, I headed home to clip my Box Tops and get a little creative!
After taking stock of all the extra Box Tops that I had been able to get simply by purchasing the products I already need at Walmart, I decided to take things one step further and create a fun Colored Pencil Bouquet for the kiddos to take to their teachers (along with all their Box Tops) on the first day of school.
What You Will Need:
1 Box of Kleenex Facial Tissues
Pipe Cleaners
Scissors
Glue
A Sponge Brush
Glitter
Colored Pencils
Ribbon
How to Make It:
This is such a fun back to school craft and since I had already stocked up on Kleenex Facial Tissues and scored double Box Tops at Walmart, it was a no brainer to whip up this fun craft. To start, the boys and I laid out piles of five Kleenex Facial Tissues.
After folding them accordion style, we secured the middle with a pipe cleaner and cut off the ends about half way down.
Next, we gently separated each of the layers of our facial tissues and pulled them towards the center to give the effect of a flower.
Once our Kleenex flowers looked like we wanted them to, we poured a little glue and some glitter onto a plate. Then, using a foam brush we gently touched the very tips of the Kleenex Facial Tissues with glue.
We immediately rolled the glue into the glitter (very gently) in order to add a little sparkle to each of our handmade flowers.
Within seconds, we had a super cute flower made for the Kleenex Facial Tissues that we had bought at Walmart.
After allowing our glue and glitter to dry, we used the pipe cleaners to wrap around the top of our colored pencils, securing the flower onto the top but making sure it would easily come off so that the pencils could be used in the classroom and the flowers could be kept forever.
Once we had repeated the process with all of our pencils, we simply held them together, secured a ribbon around them and our colored pencil bouquet was ready for back to school.
Both the boys loved that this fun craft had been so easy to make and I loved that it used supplies that allowed me to earn double Box Tops at Walmart!
As we head into the school year, I’ll continue to find fun and creative ways to show the teachers and the school that my boys go to how much we appreciate them. Whether through colored pencil flowers or simply ensuring that I stock up on everyday essentials while earning double Box Tops at Walmart, I’ll continue to work to find ways to make a difference in ways that are both big and small!

I’m the Box Top mom at school, so I love seeing double Box Tops and Bonus Box Tops. These flowers are so cute, if I showed my youngest how to make them I don’t think I would have any Kleenex left in my house.
