About a year ago, we moved. No surprise there since most of you already know this. What you might not know is that we moved from the city to the country. For those of you who aren’t familiar with rural North Carolina let me give you an idea of what this change meant. Our old home was in a neighborhood on about an eighteenth of an acre of land. We could reach out and touch the house next to us (OK, so maybe we weren’t THAT close but there were times it felt like it). There were at least three street lights that were visible from our front porch. Long story short, it was NEVER dark. I didn’t have to worry about getting up in the middle of the night and stubbing my toe on stairs (or endless toys) or feeling my way down the hallway to the kitchen. Fast forward to our new home and things are slightly different. Nestled on two acres of wooded land, there is NO light around (save the nights there’s a full moon shining). I can look out of my windows and see nothing but pitch black. And while I’m sure this leads to much deeper sleep for my entire family, it presents a challenge as a mom of a still young child who feels the need to wake up for water breaks, bathroom breaks, I-need-a-hug-right-this-minute breaks and I simply want to see how quickly mom can get up the stairs if I yell breaks. Over the last year, all of these little breaks have led to to more the one stubbed toe, endless ruined pedicures and a bruised shin or two. And it got this city girl thinking that for all us mamas who have made the plunge and moved to the country (or even just a part of town that doesn’t boast street lights on every corner), there’s got to be a better home lighting solution to illuminate up the night without giving up the darkness and solitude that we so love.
So, why am I worrying about this now? Well, after an glorious summer of longer days and lots more light, I’m once again finding lying in bed in total darkness when a little voice calls “MOMMY!”. And as fall descends upon us, I’m realizing that this will be happening more and more. So, it’s time for a solution. And since my now country-living family has adjusted to the darkness, I’m discovering ways to shine a light on those night time trips up and down the stairs to the bathroom, kitchen and even to bring a little boy back to mommy and daddy’s room without having to sacrifice the dark solitude that we’ve so gotten used to with GE Motion-Activated LED Night Lights.
Now, this solution didn’t start as what I was expecting. The initial thought that came to my mind was “I need nightlights” and my husband’s immediate response was “What, are you two?”. After explaining my dilemma to him he quickly deduced that Motion LED Lights were the perfect solution. As I stood looking at him wondering what he had up his sleeve, he gave me a little lesson on night time lighting and why Motion LED Lights are the perfect solution for all those middle of the night needs.
Lesson 1: Motion LED Lights Only Come On When You Need Them
I’ll admit that I wasn’t wild about the idea of giving up the darkness that I’ve gotten so used to. BUT, I knew I needed better home lighting than my iPhone flashlight to get up and down the stairs at night when my little guy needs me. Fighting the notion of putting always-on nightlights through my home and ruining the very darkness that has become so appealing to us, we found that Motion LED Lights were the perfect solution.
Since they stay off until they sense movement, I didn’t have to sacrifice the darkness of my home. BUT, when my little guy needs me, all it takes is walking towards them to activate them and provide light that makes it easy to get up and down the stairs, take him to the bathroom, venture to the kitchen to get him water and get him tucked back into bed without having to turn on every light on the way and wake the entire house up.
But the best part is, once my mommy duties are done, I can head back to bed and know that the Motion LED Lights will automatically turn themselves back off, returning my home to darkness.
Lesson 2: Motion LED Lights Are Simple to Install and Work Better than Traditional Nightlights
Because Motion LED Lights can sense when they are needed, I never again have to worry about the traditional nightlights and finding the perfect area so that they are far enough away from the door to avoid keeping people awake but close enough where they are useful if needed. And the best part is, they are so simple to install that even this mama can do it! All that’s required is removing my Motion LED Lights from the box.
I can then plug my Motion LED Lights into the wall, just like a nightlight. Now, here’s where things get fun. My home lighting can sense me from up to 20 feet away and when I’m coming (or a little one wonders out of his room) they light up the hallways, bathrooms and kitchen.
They stay on while there is motion in the area, providing much needed lighting that prevents stubbed toes, bruised shins and even scared children. But once the motion stops and everyone is back in bed, they cut off after 90 seconds, returning the house to darkness. Perfect, right?
Lesson 3: Motion LED Lights Provide a Sense of Security
In addition to ensuring that I have home lighting when I need it and not when I don’t, Motion LED Lights help me feel safe in this new country life I’m living. When I hear creaks in the floor or scratches on the door, I’m no longer left cowering in the corner. Instead, I can get up, know I’ve got a light that will lead my way and check out what is going on.
I’ve discovered over the last year that living in the country simply means noises here and there but having the light that Motion LED Lights provides anytime I want to reassure myself helps me feel safe and secure in my own home.
I have to say, I wouldn’t give up country living for anything now that I’ve gotten used to it but I also wouldn’t give up Motion LED Lights in my home either. With the ability to light up the night when I need to while still keeping the darkness and solitude I’ve fallen in love with, there Motion LED Lights have convinced me that during the fall (and really any time of the year) the gift of light is one which makes my home complete.
Now, it’s your turn to light up fall with Motion LED Lights. As the days get shorter and the darkness slowly creeps in, I encourage you to discover the convenience and safety that Motion LED Lights bring to your home. Whether to light your way up the stairs to your kiddos, as a way to make elderly relatives feel safer or simply as a security measure that puts your mind at ease, this easy to home lighting solution proves that when you’ve got Motion LED Lights in your home, you’re never really alone!

Now tell me, where would you use Motion LED Lights for home lighting?

My family made the move to the country (3 miles out of town) twenty something years ago and I’ve never looked back. I need more than a few of those motion detector lights. I love that they only come on when you need them.

I love the look of these lights. I agree that you need a little extra help when it starts to get darker earlier.
I need to get some of these Motion LED Lights. With three cats living under foot I don’t want to accidentally step on one.

I had no idea they made motion LED lights! We have some in our house to guide us thru the house when its dark, mainly for the kids so they can see the bathroom.
Thanks for this. I think lighting can affect your mood, so having the right type in the home is so beneficial.
Motion activated lights are great. I’ve got a few of them. I like that they’re LED too. We try to do all LED lights in our home.

What a great product to light the way! I always turn the hall light on when I wake up to use the washroom but can never fall asleep after adjusting to the light.

Husbands, always with the sarcasm before the helpful. I’m much the same way. Motion LEDs are a great idea, I can think of a couple of spots we need them.
Those little motion lights are a fantastic idea for dark hallways, steps, and other areas of the house!
We live in AK and we are approaching full days of darkness. We swear by these lights in the winter, they are so great!
I love led lights. I’d love to get one for the bathroom for middle of the night pee breaks, but also the hallway if my daughter needs me as well.

These motion activated lights look awesome, I love how bright they are and the fact that they only stay on while you are there and don’t waste electricity like typical night lights.

Rather than tripping over toys and trying to guesstimate where I am standing, these could really help. I need to get some for my home.
We love motion lights. We just got one for outdoors. I can’t wait to get some of these. I love the giveaway.
We have the same kind of hallway light in our home, except there is no sensor, in terms of movement. It goes on as soon as the lights go off, but doesn’t go on if someone walks by it.
This is a great idea, my 4 year old will freak out if I ask her to go upstairs and a light isn’t on. If we had these it would be a non-issue. She could trigger the motion sensor and it would pop on sans her melt down.
I’m sold!
