As I’m getting older, I’m beginning to pay much more attention to my health. The feeling of invincibility that once surrounded me has dissipated to some extent and I’m much more focused to the daily choices that I make. Now, I wouldn’t be honest if I said just getting older was fueling these changes. It’s definitely a part of it but losing my dad several years ago to a heart related condition has also made me become much more aware of my own heart health and how the daily choices I make can have a direct impact on my ability to live my best life. Fueled by this knowledge and the fact that my 40’s aren’t too far into the future, I’ve been finding ways to make my heart heath a priority and whipping up heart-healthy recipes like my easy (and OMGood for breakfast) Veggie, Herb & Egg Stuffed Avocados!
Now, I’ll be the first to tell you that my dad’s early exit from this earth (he was only 65) was enough of a shocker to make me look twice at the way that I was living. You see, just as I inherited my dad’s height and dark hair, I also inherited his love of not-so-healthy foods. As broken hearted as I was that he would not be around to see my boys grow up, I knew it was important for me to make changes NOW, while I’m in my 30’s, instead of waiting till later in life so that I would be. With that in mind, I made three adjustments to my lifestyle to improve my heart heath and live the best life possible for me!
Exercise 30 Minutes Every Day
I’ll be honest….I don’t love exercise. I’d much rather be sitting on my front porch with a book than sweating it out at the gym. However, I’ve made it a priority to add 30 minutes of exercise to my day each and every day! Based on the American Heart Associations’s recommendation of 150 minutes per week of moderate exercise or 75 minutes per week of vigorous exercise, I added a brisk walk to my daily routine every day of the week. For me, it’s the perfect option since I really enjoy being outdoors and I can take my dog along! And truth be told, once I started doing it, I found that by finding the most enjoyable way for me to stay active, I’m easily able to meet my weekly goals to keep my heart healthy.
Take Nature Made® Fish Oil 1200mg Burp-Less Daily
I’ve been talking a daily vitamin for years but the more research I did about heart health, the more I realized that a simply daily vitamin may not be enough. Knowing that my own mom has been taking fish oil for years, I decided to add it to my daily routine. The question became what type of fish oil could I find that didn’t have a gross aftertaste and met my heart health need and the answer was Nature Made®! Nature Made® supports leading heart health experts who recommend eating 250 - 500 mg of EPA/DHA per day to help support a healthy heart (“Recommend” amount equates to a calculation based on approximately 1,750 - 3,500 mg of omega-3 fatty acids EPA/DHA found in 2 servings of fatty fish per week). Equally important to me, Nature Made’s Burp-Less formula Fish Oil is specially coated to help prevent a fishy odor and aftertaste and Nature Made® fish oil supply only comes from wild caught ocean fish, not farm raised fish. This No Color Added, No Artificial Flavors, No Yeast or Starch, Gluten Free option was exactly the right fit for my heart heath needs!
Sold at Walmart as a single item or Twin Pack, every 2 softgels provide 720 mg of heart health Omega-3s (600 mg EPA/DHA). † These easy-to-swallow soft gels are purified to remove mercury! This State-of-the-art purification processes remove PCBs, dioxins and furans, and mercury to ensure purity levels below 0.09 ppm, 2 ppt WHO TEQs, and 0.1 ppm respectively. As if all of this wasn’t enough to convince me that the vitamin brand I’ve trusted for years was the perfect addition to my heart healthy routine, Nature Made® is the #1 Pharmacist Recommended Omega-3/Fish Oil Brand (Based on US News & World Report - Pharmacy Times Survey of pharmacists recommending this category).
After adding my bottle of Nature Made® Fish Oil 1200mg Burp-Less next to my regular vitamins that I start the day with, the last step in my daily heart healthy routine was to come up with an amazing breakfast that started my day the right way.
Start the Day with A Heart Healthy Breakfast
While for me, remembering to take my Nature Made® Fish Oil 1200mg Burp-Less in the morning is essential, I’ve been trying to be even more effective by pairing it with a heart healthy breakfast….like my Veggie, Herb and Egg Stuffed Avocados! This easy breakfast dish is delicious, satisfying and packed with fresh ingredients that are the perfect way to start the day!
What You Will Need
(makes 4 Servings)
2 Large Ripe Avocados (tender but not mushy)
4 Small Eggs
1/2 Cup of Diced Peppers (I like a variety of colors)
1/2 Cup Diced Tomatoes
Pepper to Taste
Fresh Green Onions and Cilantro (for Garnish)
How to Make It
This easy-to-make breakfast dish is filled with all the good stuff while still being super simple to whip up in the mornings. After preheating the oven to 425 degrees, I sliced my avocados in half and removed the seeds.
Now, depending on how much egg I want, I sometimes leave the hole created by the seed as is but since these avocados had smaller seeds, I decided to use my spoon to scoop out some of the soft avocado and make more room for my egg and veggies. Once I had my avocado halves just the way I wanted them, I cracked my eggs (one at a time) into a bowl and then spooned out the yolk of the egg, placing it in the middle of my prepared avocado.
*Tip: Place your avocado halves in a muffin tin to keep them from tipping over while you’re filling and baking them!*
Once my yolks were placed in my avocados, I used the remaining egg white to fill the rest of the avocado up. Then I quickly added some diced peppers to the top of my egg, being careful not to break my yolk.
After grinding some fresh pepper onto the top of my eggs, I placed them in my preheated oven for fifteen to twenty minutes (I like to cook mine a little longer so they are not runny in the middle). As soon as they were cooked the way I wanted them, I removed them from the oven.
Now, I could have eaten my Egg Stuffed Avocados just like this but I’m crazy about big flavors so I decided to top mine with diced tomatoes, green onions and cilantro.
In minutes, I had a heart healthy breakfast that boasts big flavors and paired perfectly with my Nature Made® Fish Oil 1200mg Burp-Less!
This easy breakfast is the amazingly delicious and when paired with Nature Made® Fish Oil 1200mg Burp-Less, it’s a heart healthy way to start each and every day!

Thanks for the timely reminder to take care of our heart. I come from a family with cardiac illnesses in every generation. I don’t want to be part of that statistic so I do my best to be careful with what I eat and to exercise as often as I can. I also try to include the healthy oils in our diet, the poly or mono-unsaturated fats, like the one we get from fish and avocados.
I love avocados. There are so many things one can do with them, I like the fact that they are so amenable and blend nicely with different flavours and tastes. This one looks really tempting.
