This year already seems to be flying by! I can’t believe how quickly we are approaching school break and all the fun that revolves around a week off from the regular routine. This year, I’ve put more planning into my kid’s week off school than I usually do. We’ll be getting out, exploring, and of course making some tasty snacks along the way! If you’re looking for tips for school vacation week as well as the perfect spring themed snack, read on to find easy ideas as well as how to make your very own Fruit Roll Flower Pot Snack!
My kids look forward to few things more than a week off school just as the weather is starting to warm up. However, as a work-from-home mom, I’ve found that lack of planning can lead to disastrous consequences when it comes to the kids being home for school vacation week. So, this year, I’ve gotten smart and found a variety of ways to keep my kiddos active, entertained and above all, enjoying the time that they get to spend off of school! We have travel days. We have craft days. We even have lazy days! The key to it all is quite simple!
Plan in Advance
Trust me when I say that I know how easy it is to let school vacation week sneak up on you. Also trust me when I say DON’T DO IT! Plan, mama, plan! Now, this doesn’t have to mean coming up with elaborate ideas for each and every day. If you’re taking a fun vacation, great! If not, that’s OK too! Do a little research about the area you live in and find activities that will make the time fun! There are likely tons of park, museums and attractions in your own backyard. Once you’ve found out what there is to do near where you live, make a list and let your children each choose one or two activities that they’d love to do over the break. Then put those things on the calendar and create a plan for your week!
Consider a Staycation
I truly understand the temptation to travel during school breaks. However, keep in mind that you don’t always have to go far to have a fun adventure! If you love to travel and have a trip planned, that’s great. However, don’t discount the fun of having a staycation. Now, a staycation looks different for everyone. It can be as simple as putting up a tent in your living room and everyone grabbing their sleeping bags, or as elaborate as finding a local hotel and truly getting away while still enjoying your own city. Whatever option you decide is right for you, find fun ways to make school break feel different by mixing things up!
Turn Snack Time into a Memory
Whether you travel afar or stay close to home, one of our favorite school break activities is, of course, snacking! You see, my littlest is all about taking his favorite snacks and turning them into something amazing. And my oldest? Well, he’s all about eating our creations! For those reasons, one of our favorite school break (or any time of the year really) snacks for when we’re at home or on the go are Welch’s Fruit Rolls! With their individual packaging and great taste, my kids love unrolling each and every bite! In fact, this easy snack is my go-to choice for traveling and staying at home during school vacation week. While we always make sure we have plenty of these easy snacks that have 100% of the kids’ daily value of Vitamin C and 25% of their daily value of Vitamin A & E on hand when we travel, recently we discovered that we could make the perfect spring themed snack out of them while we’re at home! Inspired by the warmer weather that accompanies school break and the flowers that are blooming in our back yard, we used Welch’s Fruit Rolls to create super cute and totally delicious Fruit Roll Flower Pot Snacks!
What You Will Need
1 Cup of Chocolate Pudding
1-2 Crushed Chocolate Sandwich Cookies (Cream Removed)
2 Pretzel Rods
2 Welch’s Fruit Rolls in Berry Flavor
1 Small Mason Jar
Spring Ribbon
How to Make It
This totally fun (and completely edible) Fruit Roll Flower Pot Snack is tons of fun to make and is perfect for sharing together as a family! We made ours with two flowers for my two kids but you can use as many flowers as you have children so that each kid gets one! It’s a perfectly delicious way to get everyone excited about the warmer weather with a snack that uses the delicious taste of Welch’s Fruit Rolls that the whole family loves! To start my Fruit Roll Flower Pot Snack, the boys and I needed to make some flowers and Welch’s Fruit Rolls were the perfect place to start since fruit is the first ingredient! To create our flowers, we rolled out our Welch’s Fruit Rolls and then starting rolling them up as we pinched the bottom portion, pleating the layers as we went to create the look of a flower.
Around and around we continued to go until we had used the whole Welch’s Fruit Roll. Now I have to say, there is really no wrong way to do this! Simply hold the bottom of the roll and pleat and wrap, pulling the layers apart to get the exact look you want. Once we had completed our flower and had it looking just the way we wanted it, we simply (gently) used a pretzel and wrapped the last bit of our Welch’s Fruit Roll around it to secure it.
At this point we had pretty much the cutest and most delicious flower you can imagine and needless to say, my boys couldn’t wait to enjoy this new version of their favorite snack!
However, just as any flower needs to be planted to really bloom, we decided that our fun Fruit Roll Flowers needed a pot to complete our perfect school break snack! I quickly grabbed a small mason jar and filled it with chocolate pudding (keep in mind one jar is the right size for sharing). Then we needed a little dirt to plant our Fruit Roll Flower in so we crushed up a few chocolate sandwich cookies and sprinkled them over the top.
Once our pot was ready, all that was left to do was insert our Fruit Roll Flowers into it and let the boys enjoy this perfect school break snack that is as much fun to make as it is to eat!
Not only did our Fruit Roll Flower Pot Snack make a perfect school break snack but it also gave us a fun way to spend the afternoon together, creating and enjoying our favorite Welch’s Fruit Rolls in a new and exciting way! Plus, as if being out of school for a week wasn’t enough to get us excited about the warm weather, unrolling and enjoying our Fruit Roll Flower Pot Snack took things to the next level and had us all excited about warmer days and blooming flowers.
Now it’s your turn! Whether you create our super fun and crazy delicious Fruit Roll Flower Pot Snack using Welch’s Fruit Rolls or simply pack them for your school break adventures, be sure to head to Walmart or your local Publix or Kroger today to stock up on this snack that the entire family can enjoy! It’s a quick and easy way to make snacking delicious while having a little (or a lot) of fun! But wait! That’s so cute. I love the flower pot idea. We just finished up with spring break about mid-March. I feel like we should have it the same time as Easter and it was a staycation. We went to a few parks, watched some movies, rode our bikes, got in a hockey game and spring cleaned a bit.
These are almost too cute to eat! Almost 😉 They look tasty!

I have always liked Welch’s products, since I was a kid. My kids would go ga ga over these snacks!
Those are seriously beautiful! It took me a minute to realize what they were. Fruit rolls are a yummy snack to start with, but this just makes them an extra special treat!
Sometimes, a staycation is all you need during school breaks. I find trips can get really stressful all in themselves (planning, setting an itinerary, budget, etc.) and my family tends to go for the staycation vibe - relax and unwind!

I totally agree about planning ahead and staycations! Going away for travel is exhausting anyway. We all need recovery time when we get back but kids have to get right back to school. I love this crafty yummy treat! How cute is that idea! Good job mom!
