With Earth Day coming up quickly (it’s this coming Sunday for those of you who didn’t know), the boys and I have been working on creating some fun crafts using items around our home. Our challenge has been to get crafty with things that would generally go in the trash, eliminating the need to buy supplies and instead taking advantage of Earth Month to upcycle items that we would just end up throwing away. In our experimentation we’ve had some failures but we’ve also had some pretty awesome successes and we were recently able to whip up some Upcycled Egg Carton Flowers that are tons of fun to make and all kinds of cute! In fact, we enjoyed making these Upcycled Egg Carton Flowers so much that we decided to share how to whip them up so that you, too, can create this adorable kid’s craft!
Pretty much everyone has eggs in their home so instead of throwing out those cartons once the eggs have been used, why not whip up these Upcycled Egg Carton Flowers instead?
What You Will Need
1 Empty Egg Carton
Paints in a Variety of Colors
Scissors
Green Pipe Cleaners
Yellow Cupcake Wrappers
How to Make It
These simple Upcycled Egg Carton Flowers are so easy to make and chances are, you have most of the supplies to make them in your home right now! To start, we pulled out an empty egg carton.
Using scissors, we cut the individual egg containers apart, cutting off the edges and cutting the fourth side so that it matched the other three.
Once we had prepared our egg carton pieces, we simple used a paper towel to dab on paint, covering the entire outside and inside our our “flowers”.
Once the paint was dry, we simply inserted a green pipe cleaner through the middle of each of the “flowers”.
Next, we pushed the tip of the pipe cleaner through our cupcake wrapper and folded it over, cutting off most of the length and then bending the end of the pipe cleaner so that when we pulled it back down into the egg container, it created the look of the center of a flower.
We repeated the process with each of our upcycled egg carton flowers until we had enough for a fun bouquet.
The boys decided to use an old glass bottle and a little ribbon to display our upcycled egg carton flowers in a fun way that will allow us to enjoy them in the coming week.
While making this craft, not only did we have tons of fun but we were also able to talk about how upcycling what some people would consider trash is a great way to be environmentally friendly while still coming up with a cute and creative craft!
As we all get ready to celebrate Earth Day, be sure to grab your littles and whip up this fun and easy craft!

What a really fun and smart idea! My kids love doing crafts like this, so this would be something we could do together and really enjoy. Plus, have something cute as an end result that wont die and will last! How fun.
We donate our egg cartons to my kids’ school for art projects. It amazes me how creative one can get using them. I’ll have to share this project with their art teacher.
I think that’s a fun activity for the kids this Spring or Summer! It’s definitely going to keep the occupied and have fun at the same time. It’s not difficult to make either!

I’ve been hunting crafts for the kids to do this weekend, it’s going to be rainy and cold. I think I have a couple of egg cartons stashed somewhere that we could use to make these. They’re so cute.
Aww those are so sweet and cute!! Such a great and original idea too. I’ve never seen this done and turned into flowers. My little niece would have blast doing this one.
So cute, and it doesn’t require moms to have to take care of them 🙂 This is such a fun idea for kids to make as a gift or just as a craft.
This is very creative! I would love to do this with herbs i’m trying to grow this summer. Also a fun craft for kids to join in on. Thanks for sharing!
