Are you ready for some football (food)? While I’ll admit that I love my football games, I’ll be honest and say that what makes game day are the dishes. There is just something about homegating or tailgating that takes a regular day of football and makes it into something fantastic. That’s why all during football season I’m in the kitchen coming up with simple recipes that will make the the Most Valued Cook of game day festivities. I try to come up with ideas that are flavorful, fun and best of all easy and recently I stumbled on my absolute go-to game day food in these easy-to-make Spicy Skillet Meatballs made with El Yucateco Hot Sauce!
This easy game-day recipe is an essential for any homegating or tailgating celebration and comes together with just a few easy ingredients in a couple of simple steps! Even better, by using El Yucateco Hot Sauce that is celebrating it’s 50th birthday of adding flavor to amazing dishes this year to the recipe I’m able to sneak in a little surprise that really gets my fans jumping.
- ½ Cup of El Yucateco Salsa Picante de Chile Habanero Red Hot Sauce
- ½ Cup of Grape Jelly
- ⅓ Cup of Worcestershire Sauce
- 30 Frozen Meatballs
- Diced Green Onions (for Garnish)
- Place the frozen meatballs in a single layer in a large skillet.
- Whisk together the El Yucateco Hot Sauce, Grape Jelly and Worcestershire Sauce.
- Spoon the mixture over the top of the meatballs.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes on 350 degrees.
- Remove from the oven and sprinkle green onions over the top.
- Served with football toothpicks for game day fun!
Now I’ll be honest, my family like things hot which is why we LOVE El Yucateco Red Hot Sauce but do make note that El Yucateco offers a variety of Hot Sauces that range from mild to scorching so choose the one that works best with your family’s tastes! Any El Yucateco Hot Sauce can be substituted for the Red Hot Sauce in this recipe. To start I placed my frozen meatballs in a single layer in a large skillet.
While I’ve never met a meatball I didn’t like, I wanted to add a little sweetness and a lot of heat to my Spicy Skillet Meatballs to turn them into a game day dish that was unforgettable. I knew that my El Yucateco Salsa Picante de Chile Habanero Red Hot Sauce was a perfect pick to do just that and I had a pretty good idea that by pairing it with grape jelly, I could add undertones of sweetness that were perfect for this game day dish.
Knowing that I wanted saucy meatballs, I mixed together my grape jelly, El Yucateco Hot Sauce and Worcestershire Sauce in a small bowl, whisking it with my fork to make sure my ingredients were mixed well.
Once I had my sauce mixed, I simply spooned it over the top of my meatballs, making sure to get the hot and flavorful sauce onto each and every one.
With my Spicy Skillet Meatballs prepared, I placed them in my preheated oven and cooked them for 35-3o minutes, until the meatballs were warm all the way through and my sauce had melted over them, coating every inch with spicy goodness. As soon as they were done, I removed them from the oven and sprinkled my green onions over the top for a pop of freshness.
With my Spicy Skillet Meatballs perfectly cooked and coated in a sauce that’s worth cheering for, all that was left to do was add a few football themed toothpicks and let my guests enjoy this game day snack that’s just the right amount of spicy amazingly delicious!
Whether you plan to homegate, tailgate or simply want the perfect snack to nosh on while you cheer on your favorite team, I highly encourage you to try these easy and delicious Spicy Skillet Meatballs made with El Yucateco Hot Sauce!
